SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 22, 2013) – The Stonehill College volleyball team capped off a successful weekend at the Yellow Jacket Invitational with a 3-2 (25-21, 23-25, 25-20, 16-25, 15-11) win over Georgian Court University this afternoon at Metcalf Gymnasium.

Sophomore outside hitter Delia Phillips (St. James, N.Y./Smithtown East) recorded 12 kills and 14 digs, while junior Mary-Kate Catton (San Diego, Calif./Academy of Our Lady of Peace) added 13 kills and two blocks with a .360 hitting percentage.

The Lions were led offensively by junior Tatiana Villariny's (Rio Grande, P.R./Escuela Superior Pedro Falu) match-high 16 kills, and defensively by senior Gabriela Berrios' (Carolina, P.R./Braulio Alonso) match-best 19 digs.

A day after winning two matches in the minimum of six sets, Stonehill again came out on the winning end, although in today's match, Georgian Court pushed the Skyhawks to the limit. Stonehill won the opening set, but the Lions won two of the next three frames to force a fifth and final set. The Skyhawks hit .160 in the deciding set, compared to Georgian Court's .080 hitting percentage, as Stonehill won the frame and its third consecutive match.

Following Stonehill's success in the Yellow Jacket Invitational, the Skyhawks return home for Tuesday night's match with NE-10 rival Saint Anselm College at Merkert Gym. The contest will also serve as the 2013 Purple & White Game for Stonehill.
