Stonehill Dominates In Two Wins At Yellow Jacket Invitational


Junior setter Emily Iverson racked up 58 assists tonight- 34 against East Stroudsburg and 24 against Nyack.

Skyhawks sweep both matches, winning all six sets

Springfield, Mass. (September 21, 2013) – The Stonehill College volleyball team won both of the matches it played tonight at the Yellow Jacket Invitational, first sweeping East Stroudsburg University, 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-19), and then finishing off Nyack College (25-18, 25-19, 25-21) in three frames as well.

Stonehill cruised in the first match, sweeping East Stroudsburg while hitting .366 as a team. Junior Meaghan Lee (Hanover, Mass./Notre Dame Academy) recorded a match-high ten kills for the Skyhawks, while also contributing three blocks and hitting .421. Junior Emily Iverson (Elmhurst, Ill./York) continued her strong play since her return from injury, dishing out a match-high 34 assists while hitting .750. Senior captain Sydney Maxey (Hutto, Texas/Hutto) contributed eight kills and a match-best ten digs to go with her .368 hitting percentage.

The Warriors were led by junior Annabelle  Charleton (Landenberg, Pa./Avon Grove), who recorded 16 assists, six kills, six digs and one block, and senior Allye Preziosi (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif./Trabuco Hills), who tallied 13 assists, seven kills, and six digs for East Stroudsburg.


Sophomore outside hitter Delia Phillips led Stonehill to a 3-0 win over Nyack College with 13 digs and eight kills.

The second match was more of the same for Stonehill, but this time sophomore Delia Phillips (St. James, N.Y./Smithtown East) led the way for the Skyhawks. Phillips tallied a match-high 13 digs to go with eight kills, two assists, and a team-best .294 hitting percentage. Iverson contributed 24 assists, to up her total for the night to 58 in two matches.

Sophomore Samantha Garza (North Branch, Mich.) led Nyack offensively with nine kills and a .333 hitting percentage, while teammate Brianna Kane (Bethany, Conn.) hit .400 with 18 assists, nine digs, and two kills.

Stonehill (6-4, 1-1 NE-10) will play one more match tomorrow in the Yellow Jacket Invitational, as the Skyhawks take on Georgian Court University at 2 p.m. Stonehill then returns to Easton for the 2013 Purple & White Game, which will take place Tuesday night at 7 p.m. against NE-10 rival Saint Anselm College.
