Stonehill Wins Final Two Matches At RAM Fest


Junior setter Emily Iverson had a match-high 44 assists against Chestnut Hill in her first appearance of the 2013 season.

WEST CHESTER, Pa. (September 14, 2013) – The Stonehill College volleyball team rebounded nicely from a tough opening match loss yesterday at the RAM Fest, defeating both Chestnut Hill College (22-25, 25-15, 25-17, 25-20) and the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia (25-15, 25-13, 23-25, 25-21) today by scores of 3-1.

In its first match of the day, Stonehill topped Chestnut Hill in four sets, winning three in a row after losing the opening set. The Skyhawks had four players with double-digit kills, and four with double-digit digs.

Stonehill sophomore outside hitter Delia Phillips (Saint James, N.Y./Smithtown East) hit .267 with 14 kills and 15 digs, while junior Meaghan Lee (Hanover, Mass./Notre Dame Academy) hit a match-high .591 with 13 kills. Junior Mary-Kate Catton (San Diego, Calif./Academy of Our Lady of Peace) had a match-best 16 kills, and sophomore Kelsey Weymouth (North Attleboro, Mass./North Attleboro) recorded a team-high 16 digs.

Freshman Madison McBride (Long Beach, Calif./Robert A. Millikan) led the Griffins with nine kills, 13 digs, and a .281 hitting percentage.  As a team, Stonehill hit .277 to Chestnut Hill's .175.

In the second match, Stonehill was again led by Phillips, who recorded her second double-double of the day with a match-high 19 kills to go with 10 digs and a .424 hitting percentage. Weymouth also had a double-double for the Skyhawks, tallying 12 kills and 14 digs while hitting .320. Freshman setter Taylor Stevens (Foster, R.I./Ponaganset) contributed a match-high 49 assists with a hitting percentage of .429.

The Skyhawks hit over .300 in five of the eight sets that they played today, including over .400 twice. Against the Devils, Stonehill had four players that hit better than .400.

Stonehill (4-3, 1-0 NE-10) will be back in action this Tuesday, when it hosts NE-10 rival American International College in the Skyhawks home opener on Camper Reunion Night.
