Stevens Earns NE-10 Rookie & Setter Of The Week Honors

Foster, R.I. freshman earns accolades in first week of collegiate career

EASTON, Mass. (September 10, 2013) – Stonehill College freshman setter Taylor Stevens (Foster, R.I./Ponaganset) has been named both the Northeast-10 Conference Setter of the Week, as well as NE-10 Rookie of the Week, it was announced earlier today.

Stevens averaged a Northeast-10 leading 11.00 assists to go with 2.70 digs per set over the first three matches of her collegiate career this weekend at the Charger Invitational. She posted a .267 hitting percentage with four kills on 15 attempts for the weekend, adding two service aces, three blocks (one solo), while averaging 8.0 points per set. In the Skyhawks four-set win over Wilmington University on Saturday, Stevens contributed the first double-double of her career, with a season-high in both assists (51) and digs (13). In Stonehill's 2013 season-opener and Stevens' collegiate debut, the freshman tallied 29 assists and seven digs.

A 2013 graduate of Ponaganset High School, Stevens was named Rhode Island Division I Player of the Year, Cox Player of the Year, and Gatorade Player of the Year as a senior.

Stonehill is in action tonight at Assumption College and this weekend at the RAM Fest, a tournament hosted by West Chester (Pa.) University. The Skyhawks home opener is slated for next Tuesday, September 17 at 7 p.m. against American International College.
