Stonehill Sweeps UMass Lowell, 3-0

Lee and Phillips combine for 19 kills and .500 hitting percentage 

Sophomore Meaghan Lee registered a .615 hitting percentage on the night against the River Hawks.

LOWELL, Mass. (November 6, 2012) – The Stonehill College women's volleyball team took three-straight sets from UMass Lowell in Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) action on Tuesday night at the Costello Athletic Center by scores of 25-16, 25-13 and 25-14. 

Sophomore middle blocker Meaghan Lee (Hanover, Mass./Notre Dame Academy) compiled a team-high ten kills for a .615 hitting percentage, one dig and one block assist to lead the offense. Freshman outside hitter Delia Phillips (St. James, N.Y./Smithtown East) posted nine kills and a .429 hitting percentage. Combined, both players tallied 19 kills and a .500 hitting percentage while the Skyhawks notched a .327 hitting percentage, collectively.

 Sophomore setter Emily Iverson (Elmhurst, Ill./York) engineered the attack with a match-high 26 assists, ten digs, two kills, one service ace and one block assist. Junior outside hitter Sydney Maxey (Hutto, Texas/Hutto) recorded a match-high 13 digs, four kills and one assist. 

Junior defensive specialist Jessica Frankowski (Unionville, Conn./Farmington) and senior libero Erin Kelly (Tinley Park, Ill./Marist) collected seven digs apiece. 

For UMass Lowell, sophomore right-side hitter Sierra Brown (San Diego, Calif./Point Loma) turned in a match-high 11 kills, one dig and one block solo. Junior setter Olivia Parkins (Dracut, Mass./Dracut) dished out 19 assists and registered nine digs. Junior outside hitter Brooke Peterson (Del Mar, Calif./Torrey Pines) led the River Hawks in digs with 11 and also added two kills, one assist and one block assist. 

The Skyhawks increased their kill total in every set finding a groove offensively as the game went on posting their highest hitting percentage in the contest in set three (.353). Stonehill connected for 41 putaways, 33 assists, eight service aces, 48 digs and nine blocks (three solo). 

Sophomore defensive specialist Mary Nelson (Rochester, N.H./Spaulding) and freshmen Kelsey Weymouth (North Attleboro, Mass./North Attleboro) and Meaghan Martin (Medway, Mass./Medway) all notched a pair of service aces, respectively.

Stonehill (13-14, 7-8 NE-10) awaits the conclusion of the NE-10 regular season matches this weekend to determine its postseason fate. UMass Lowell (10-14, 5-9 NE-10) travels to The College of Saint Rose on Friday, November 9 at 7 p.m.
