Yellow Jackets Claim 3-1 Victory Over Skyhawks

Iverson, Weymouth post double-doubles in loss for Stonehill

Sophomore Emily Iverson collected her third double-double of the season with 43 assists and 11 digs.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (September 21, 2012) – The Stonehill College women's volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to American International College by scores of 22-25, 20-25, 25-17 and 26-28 in Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) action on Friday evening at Henry A. Butova Gymnasium.

Freshman outside hitter Kelsey Weymouth (North Attleboro, Mass./North Attleboro) and sophomore setter Emily Iverson (Elmhurst, Ill./York) both compiled double-doubles to lead the Skyhawks in the loss. Weymouth tallied her first-career double-double with 12 kills and 11 digs while Iverson dished out 43 assists, recorded 11 digs and also added five blocks (one solo).

Sophomore middle blocker Meaghan Lee (Hanover, Mass./Notre Dame Academy) posted a team-high 13 kills on 28 attempts for a .393 hitting percentage. Junior right-side hitter Kirsten Arvidson (Andover, Mass./Andover) chipped in with seven kills and five block assists.

Defensively, senior libero Erin Kelly (Tinley Park, Ill./Marist) had a team-leading 16 digs to go along with a pair of assists and service aces. Junior outside hitter Sydney Maxey (Hutto, Texas/Hutto) turned in 12 digs while junior Jessica Frankowski (Unionville, Conn./Farmington) added 11 digs.

For the Yellow Jackets, Britt Bryant (New Windsor, N.Y./Cornwall Central) and Caitlin Connelly (Holbroook, N.Y./St. Anthony's) combined for 35 kills, 18 and 17 respectively, to pace the offense.

Kervelle Redhead (St. James, Trinidad/St. Joseph's Convent) orchestrated the attack with a match-high 51 assists and freshman libero Franny Sanchez (Ossining, N.Y./Ossining) notched 17 digs, four assists and two service aces.

Ahead 1-0 in the contest, Bryant powered American International College in set two with a game-high ten putaways on 11 attempts (zero errors), one dig and two block assists. The Yellow Jackets hit .308 as a team in set two tallying 18 kills on 39 attempts (six errors).

Stonehill responded in set three with a .375 hitting percentage (16 kills, four errors, 32 attempts) to erase a chance at an American International College sweep. Lee had four kills, freshman outside hitter Delia Phillips (St. James, N.Y./Smithtown East) supplied three kills and the Skyhawks collected five team blocks for a 25-17 set three win.

Connelly took over in set four with a team-leading seven kills on 13 attempts and two errors. The junior outside hitter forced the score to 26-26 with her final putaway of the evening before Stonehill committed two attacking errors to end the match.

Stonehill (6-5, 1-2 NE-10) hosts the University of Bridgeport on "Black Out Night" at Merkert Gymnasium on Tuesday, September 25 at 7 p.m. American International College (7-4, 2-0 NE-10) travels to Pleasantville, New York to participate in the Pace University Invitational on Saturday, September 22 against Molloy College and Texas A&M International.
