Stonehill Defeats Georgian Court, 3-1, On Day One Of Bentley University Invitational

Arvidson and Catton combine for 22 kills in Skyhawks victory

WALTHAM, Mass. (September 14, 2012) – The Stonehill College women's volleyball team opened up day one of the Bentley University Invitational with a 3-1 victory over non-conference opponent Georgian Court University by scores of 25-20, 24-26, 25-21 and 25-18 on Friday night at the Dana Center.

Junior right-side hitter Kirsten Arvidson (Andover, Mass./Andover) posted a team-high 12 kills along with four digs and five block assists while sophomore middle blocker Mary-Kate Catton (San Diego, Calif./Academy of Our Lady of Peace) notched ten kills (.368 hitting percentage) and added one block solo and four block assists to lead the offense.

Sophomore setter Emily Iverson (Elmhurst, Ill./York) guided the Skyhawks attack with 42 assists, six digs, two kills, one block solo and one block assist. Sophomore middle blocker Meaghan Lee (Hanover, Mass./Notre Dame Academy), freshman Delia Phillips (St. James, N.Y./Smithtown East) and junior outside hitter Sydney Maxey (Hutto, Texas/Hutto) all contributed eight kills apiece. Maxey also turned in 11 digs to aid the defensive efforts of senior libero Erin Kelly (Tinley Park, Ill./Marist), who had a team-high 12 digs, and junior defensive specialist Jessica Frankowski (Unionville, Conn./Farmington), who recorded seven digs and four service aces.

For Georgian Court University, Amy Berry (Bayville, N.J./Manchester Regional) had 13 kills and eight digs while Tatiana Villariny Rodriguez (Rio Grande, Puerto Rico/Escuela Superior Pedro Falu) led all players with 14 kills and eight digs. Jaslene Lopez (Coamo, Puerto Rico/Colegio Valvanera) dished out 42 assists and also had five digs.

Stonehill hit .221, compiled 50 kills, had ten service aces, 48 digs and recorded ten team blocks (14 block assists). Georgian Court University tallied a .194 hitting percentage, 46 kills, seven service aces, 60 digs and 12 team blocks (nine block solos, six block assists).

The Skyhawks (4-3, 1-0 NE-10) return to action tomorrow on day two of the Bentley University Invitational against Wilmington (Del.) University at 1 p.m. and wrap up the tournament versus Queens (N.Y.) College at 3 p.m. Georgian Court (3-5, 1-1 CACC) plays California University of Pennsylvania at 1 p.m. and Bentley University at 3 p.m. on the final day of the invitational.
