Skyhawks Claim 3-1 Victory In Season Opener Over Post

Lee's 12 kills, Iverson's 40 assists pace Stonehill past Eagles

EASTON, Mass. (September 1, 2012) – The Stonehill College women's volleyball team opened up its 2012 season with a 3-1 victory over Post University by scores of 25-14, 26-28, 25-17 and 25-15 in non-conference action on Saturday evening at the Drubner Center.

Sophomore middle blocker Meaghan Lee (Hanover, Mass./Notre Dame Academy) led the Skyhawks offense with a team-high 12 kills (.478 hitting percentage) and five block assists. Classmate Emily Iverson (Elmhurst, Ill./York) facilitated the offense with 40 assists. Iverson also aided the offense with two kills, one service ace and eight digs.

Sophomore Mary-Kate Catton (San Diego, Calif./Academy of Our Lady of Peace) chipped in with ten kills (.375 hitting percentage) and three block assists while junior Sydney Maxey (Hutto, Texas/Hutto) had nine kills, three service aces and eight digs.

Senior captain and libero Erin Kelly (Tinley Park, Ill./Marist) led all players with 23 digs. Kelly also added one assist and two service aces.

For Post University, graduate student Kelli Reynolds (Stamford, Conn./Jonathan Law) had a match-high 20 kills and six digs while junior outside hitter Emily Wilman (Perth Amboy, N.J./Union Catholic) added 11 kills, one assist, one service ace and a team-high 17 digs. Sophomore setter Julia Slyaktina (Moscow, Russia/School #739) had 36 assists.

The Skyhawks posted a .296 hitting percentage as a team, turned in nine service aces, had 52 digs and 16 block assists. The Eagles hit .122, had five service aces, 59 digs and one block solo.

Stonehill (1-0, 0-0 NE-10) returns to action on Friday, September 7 at the Riverfront Hotel Grand Rapids Classic at the GVSU Fieldhouse Arena in Allendale, Michigan against the University of Wisconsin-Parkside and Notre Dame (Ohio) College with its first match beginning at 11 a.m. Post University (0-2, 0-0 CACC) takes on Molloy College on Tuesday, September 4, on the road, at 6 p.m.
