Stonehill Completes Come-From-Behind Victory Over Saint Rose, 3-2

Skyhawks push conference mark to 7-0 this season

ALBANY, N.Y. (October 15, 2011) – The Stonehill College women's volleyball team maintained its perfect record in Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) play on Saturday afternoon with a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over The College of Saint Rose by scores of 20-25, 25-21, 16-25, 26-24 and 15-11 at Nolan Gymnasium.

Sophomore middle-blocker Vivian Fitzgerald (Winfield, Ill./Aurora Central Catholic) led the Skyhawks offensively with 12 kills – including three in Stonehill's 9-1 run to close out the fifth and final set – for a .421 hitting percentage, one dig and four block assists.

Senior outside hitter Laura Huselton (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) connected for a team-leading 15 kills, two service aces, nine digs and one block assist. Sophomores Kirsten Arvidson (Andover, Mass./Andover) and Sydney Maxey (Hutto, Texas/Hutto) also contributed with double-digit kill performances as Arvidson put down 14 for a .345 hitting percentage and Maxey tallied 11 on the afternoon.

Freshman setter Emily Iverson (Elmhurst, Ill./York) dished out a match-high 50 assists to go along with three kills, one service ace, eight digs and two block assists. Junior libero Erin Kelly (Tinley Park, Ill./Marist) led all players with 18 digs.

For Saint Rose, Aubrey Bobo (Oneida, N.Y./Oneida) collected a match-high 17 kills (.324 hitting percentage), two assists, two service aces, 13 digs and two block assists. Ariana Wilson (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Arlington) and Tori Daniels (South Hadley, Mass./Frontier Regional) combined for 45 assists (Wilson 24, Daniels 21) while teammates Chelsea Tyler (Bernardston, Mass./Pioneer Valley Regional) and Kaitlyn Jasnica (Romeoville, Ill./Joliet Catholic Academy) both compiled double-digit kills. Tyler had 13 kills for a .409 hitting percentage and Jasnica registered 10 kills.

Stonehill had 61 kills in the match, 23 errors, 144 total attacks (.264 hitting percentage), seven service aces, 56 digs and 13 blocks (12 assist). Saint Rose turned in 57 kills, 22 errors, 142 total attacks (.246 hitting percentage) 11 service aces, 52 digs and 10 blocks (eight assist).

In the fourth set, the Skyhawks tallied 20 kills for a .441 hitting percentage, their best of the afternoon in any set, to force set five. Maxey and Huselton led Stonehill's comeback notching 12 kills total (Maxey seven, Huselton five) in the fourth set including a pair from Maxey down the stretch with the scored tied at 24-24.

Saint Rose jumped out to a 10-7 advantage in set five but the Skyhawks rallied for the second time in as many sets ripping off a 9-1 run spearheaded by three kills from Fitzgerald to close out the contest. Maxey also added one kill and a solo block down the stretch to aid Stonehill.

Stonehill (19-3, 7-0 NE-10) travels to Le Moyne tomorrow in NE-10 action at 1 p.m. Saint Rose (10-7, 5-3 NE-10) returns to action on Friday, October 21 against Southern New Hampshire University in NE-10 play on the road at 7 p.m.
