Skyhawks Take Two In Tri-Match At Home

Skyhawks pushing winning streak to four-straight matches 

EASTON, Mass. (October 1, 2011) – The Stonehill College women's volleyball team swept both ends of its of tri-match on Saturday afternoon in Merkert Gymnasium. The Skyhawks opened up the tri-match with a 3-0 victory over Northeast-10 Conference (NE-10) opponent, Franklin Pierce University, by scores of 25-20, 25-13, 25-18 and a 3-0 triumph over non-conference opponent, Mercy College, by scores of 25-8, 25-12 and 25-16.

Sophomore outside hitter Sydney Maxey (Hutto, Texas/Hutto) led all players in kills with 11 and also added 11 digs for her tenth double-double this season to lead the Skyhawks offensively.

Classmate and right-side hitter Kirsten Arvidson (Andover, Mass./Andover) chipped in with 10 kills and two block assists while freshman setter Emily Iverson (Elmhurst, Ill./York) dished out a match-high 33 assists to go along with three kills, six digs, one block solo and one block assist. Jessica Frankowski (Unionville, Conn./Farmington) and Laura Huselton (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) fell one dig shy of the match-high posting 13 apiece.

For the Ravens, Catie Swiderski (Rocky Point, N.Y./Rocky Point) paced the squad with seven kills, two assists, four service aces and seven digs. Sophomore Stephanie Svorinic (Scottdale, Ariz./Scottsdale CC) added 18 assists, three kills, and five digs while Michelle Marguette (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) led all players in digs with 14 total.

Stonehill 3, Mercy 0

Arvidson led the Skyhawks attack in match two posting eight kills and one block assist. Iverson filled the stat sheet with 28 assists, three kills, one service ace, three digs and block assist while Huselton and Rachel Sperando (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) notched six kills each.

Junior libero Erin Kelly (Tinley Park, Ill./Marist) compiled a match-high 14 digs for the Skyhawks while Frankowski tallied 10 digs.

For the Mavericks, freshman outside hitter Brenna White (Gardnerville, Nev./Douglas) led all players in kills with 10 alongside one assist, six digs and one block assist.

Stonehill (15-2, 3-0 NE-10) travels to Merrimack on Tuesday, October 4 for a NE-10 matchup at 7 p.m. Franklin Pierce (7-8, 1-3 NE-10) hosts Bentley University on Tuesday at 7 p.m. and Mercy (5-10, 0-2 ECC) plays Le Moyne on Sunday, October 2 at 4 p.m.
