Dexter breaks two of her previous school records

NEW HAVEN, Connecticut (May 11, 2019) – The Stonehill College women's track & field program finished eighth out of 41 teams at the New England Outdoor Track & Field Championships at the Jess Dow Field, hosted by Southern Connecticut State University on Saturday.
Dartmouth College took home the team title with a total of 107 points, while the University of Rhode Island held on for second place after day two events with 74 points and UMass Amherst rounded out the top three with 62 points. Quinnipiac University finished fourth overall with 53 points, while Assumption College and Southern Connecticut State University tied for fifth place with 42 points.
The Skyhawks earned eighth place for their third top 10 finish at the New England Outdoor Track & Field Championships in five years, totaling 35 points. This is also the second time in four years that the Skyhawks have finished eighth.
After Ward earned the Skyhawks' only All-New England honor yesterday, Stonehill added five on day two for a total of six.
Senior Olivia Dexter qualified for both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes after leading the way for both events on day one. On day two, she impressed once again as she took home both titles for her first two New England Championship titles of her career. She has now totaled 11 All-New England honors in her career. Her time of 11.88-seconds in the 100-meter sprint and 24.60-seconds in the 200-meter run broke both her previous school records. Dexter's 100-meter time moves her up to 42nd on the NCAA Division II performance list.
Junior Shayla Lyons earned her second All-New England honor with a 43 foot, 7.25 inch throw in the shot put as she took home seventh out of 23 competitors. This distance broke Gaelin Farrell's '17 school record she set in 2017. Classmate Elizabeth Balzarini finished 13th overall with her mark of 40 feet, 3.75 inches for a new career best.
Lyons received her third All-New England recognition and second of the day in the discus throw measuring a mark of 141 feet, 7 inches, good for third place out of 24 competitors. This distance broke her previous school record throw that she set at the Holy Cross Invitational earlier this season. Freshman Krista Stracqualursi, in her first New England Championship, placed 15th overall with a throw of 124 feet, 8 inches.
Junior Jordan Callahan also earned an All-New England recognition, her first of her career, with a time of 11:18.33 in the 3000-meter steeplechase. The Plymouth, Massachusetts native finished eighth out of 27, while sophomore Sophia Anderle took home 16th with her time of 11:43.91.

After sitting seventh at the end of day one of the heptathlon senior Colleen Perry fell to ninth overall with a total of 4,072 points out of 11 competitors. In the fifth event, Perry finished 11th in the long jump with a career best mark of 15 feet, 11.50 inches, as she took ninth in the javelin throw with a distance of 77 feet, 8 inches. In the final event of the heptathlon, Perry clocked in a time of 2:32.29 in the 800-meter run.
Stonehill's 4x400-meter relay team turned in a time of 3:56.26 out of 19 teams. Claire Hurtado was the lead leg, running an unofficial time of 59.0-seconds, while Jillian Caiazzi clocked in an unofficial split of 59.9-seconds. Sinead O'Brien ran the third leg of the relay handing the baton off in an unofficial time of 59.4-seconds, while Krista Fernandes concluded the race with an unofficial 400 anchor leg of 57.7-seconds.
Junior Alyssa Freeman finished third in her heat of the 800-meter run, as her time of 2:16.08 was 17th overall out of 30 competitors, while Caiazzi ran the race in 2:17.30, good for 22nd.
Junior Anna Lastra placed 18th out of 30 competitors in the 1500-meter run clocking in a time of 4:40.40.
Stonehill will learn which events it has qualified for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Kingsville, Texas at the Pepsi Field at Javelina Stadium which will take place from Thursday, May 23 to Saturday, May 25, hosted by Texas A & M University, Kingsville.
