NEW HAVEN, Connecticut (May 10, 2019) – After day one of competition at the New England Championship at Jess Dow Field in New Haven, Connecticut hosted by Southern Connecticut State University, the Stonehill College women's track & field team saw one All-New England recognition.
Dartmouth College currently leads the way as a team with 45 total points, while the University of Rhode Island sits second with 18 points. The University of New Haven and Rhode Island College are tied for third with 16 points, while Southern Connecticut State University and Middlebury College each have 13 points and are in fifth place. The Skyhawks have earned six points and are tied for 18th place after seven events scored.
Junior Madison Ward who provisionally qualified last weekend in the high jump earned her third All-New England honor with a third-place finish as the second Division II competitor clearing a height of 5 feet, 7.25 inches. Classmate Kathleen Giusti placed 10th with a height of 5 feet, 2.25-inches.
Senior Olivia Dexter crossed the finish line first in her heat of the 100-meter dash clocking in a time of 12.04-seconds, which qualified her for finals tomorrow and her time put her on top of all 27 competitors.
Dexter also qualified for the 200-meter run finals tomorrow as she took first in her heat once again clocking in a time of 24.70-seconds, which put her second out of 32 competitors and she was the first Division II competitor to finish. Junior Sinead O'Brien finished sixth in the heat with a time of 26.41-seconds taking home 26th.

Senior Colleen Perry finished ninth overall in the 100-meter hurdles in the first event of the heptathlon with a career best time of 15.73-seconds. She then took eighth in the high jump with a height of 4 feet, 10.25 inches and seventh in the shot put with a distance of 31 feet. In the fourth event of the day, Perry finished 10th in the 200-meter dash with a career best time of 27.29-seconds. At the end of four events, Perry sits seventh out of 11 competitors.
Junior Zoe Smith just missed out on qualifying for finals in the 100-meter hurdles as she matched her career best time of 14.53-seconds, while senior Krista Fernandes took home 14th out of 30th with a time of 15.00-seconds. Fernandes also competed in the 400-meter hurdles, where she clocked in at 1:05.75 finishing with a 15th-place finish out of 31 competitors.
Junior Claire Hurtado finished 18th out of 25 competitors in the 800-meter run clocking in a time of 59.61-seconds.
The Skyhawks will take on day two of the New England Championships, tomorrow, May 11 with the final events of the heptathlon starting at 10:00 a.m., and throwing and track events starting at noon.
