Colarusso takes title in the pole vault

MANCHESTER, New Hampshire (May 3, 2019) – The Stonehill College women's track & field currently sits second after day one of competition at the Northeast-10 Conference Championships, hosted by Southern New Hampshire University.

Assumption College has totaled 48 points after day one with five events scored, as Stonehill is second with 35 points and the College of Saint Rose is third with 30 points. Merrimack College and Southern Connecticut State University round out the top five with 18 and 17 points, respectively.

Three Skyhawks earned All-Conference nods in the pole vault, 10,000-meter run, 1500-meter run.

Junior Ashley Colarusso took the Skyhawks' second-straight title in the pole vault with a height of 11 feet, 5.75 inches.

In the 1500-meter finals, Stonehill totaled 17 points, as junior Anna Lastra earned All-Conference honors finishing third with a time of 4:40.45. Classmate Alyssa Freeman followed with fourth place and a career best time of 4:41.19, as sophomore Jillian Howard  took fifth with a career best time of 4:48.09. Senior Adrienne Santoro rounded out the scoring Purple & White with her career best time of 4:48.76 finishing seventh out of 18 competitors.

Sophomore Samantha Curtin earned an All-Conference nod finishing third out of 17 competitors as she crossed the finish line of the 10000-meter run with a career best time of 38:25.07. Senior Makenzie Cyr was next across the line taking home fourth with her career best time of 38:31.88 and Taylor Landers just missed out on scoring points for the Skyhawks as she placed ninth with her career best time of 40:02.75, but qualified for New England Championships with her time.

Junior Jesica Litwa led the way for Stonehill taking home sixth in the hammer throw with a measurement of 141 feet, 10 inches. Classmate Shayla Lyons also earned points for the Purple & White taking seventh with a toss of 137 feet, 1 inch.

Senior Colleen Perry is third out of nine competitors with 2567 points as she was first in the high jump clearing a height of 5 feet, 1 inch, second in the hurdles with a time of 15.10-seconds, fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.60-seconds, and fifth in the shot put with a toss of 31 feet, .50-inches.

After senior Olivia Dexter finished first in her heat of the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.17-seconds, she found herself on top of the field of 31 competitors. Dexter also led the way in the 200-meter run qualifying for finals with her time of 25.02-seconds out of 30 competitors. Dexter placed seventh in the long jump with a mark of 17 feet, 7 inches.

The Skyhawks put three in the finals of the 800-meter run including Freeman, Lastra, and senior Jillian Caiazzi . Freeman led her heat with a time of 2:17.55, taking third overall 25 competitors, while Lastra followed in fourth with a time of 2:19.90 and Caiazzi placed sixth overall with a time of 2:18.37.

Stonehill also saw three Skyhawks qualify for the 100-meter hurdles including junior Zoe Smith, senior Krista Fernandes, and freshman Abigail Creamer. Smith placed first in her heat with a third place finish in preliminaries with a time of 14.97-seconds. Fernandes placed sixth overall with her career best time of 15.16-seconds and Creamer took the last qualifying spot with a time of 15.25-seconds.

Fernandes also qualified for the 400-meter hurdles clocking in a time of 1:05.70 finishing second out of 19 competitors.

Junior Claire Hurtado placed third in her heat finishing eighth overall, taking the final spot of qualifiers with her career best time of 59.31-seconds.

On the second day of competition, May the Fourth be with the Skyhawks in their chase to their fourth-straight NE10 Outdoor Championship, tomorrow, with a start time of 9:30 a.m. for the remaining heptathlon events, 10:00 a.m. for the field events, and 12:30 p.m. with the start of track events.
