Four Skyhawks qualified for New England's in outdoor opener

LOWELL, Massachusetts (March 30, 2019) – The Stonehill College women's track and field team opened up the outdoor season at the UMass Lowell Invitational on Saturday.
Four Skyhawks qualified for the New England Championships in the season opener, as two placed first at the Invitational and there were three career best performances.
Junior Madison Ward was one of the two Skyhawks to place first, as she was the individual winner of the high jump clearing a height of 5 feet, 5 inches matching her career best as she had to defeat Sierra Rudolph from UMass Lowell in a jump off. Her height also qualified her for the New England Championships later on in the season. Ward also competed in the long jump finishing seventh out of 14 competitors with a mark of 16 feet, 1.5 inches.
Senior Olivia Dexter was the second Skyhawk to earn an individual title, as she placed first in the long jump with a mark of 18 feet, 2.25 inches, defeating competitors from Division I institutions. Dexter's mark qualified her for New England's.
Also in the long jump, sophomore Jessydoris Iwuala placed in the top 10 with a distance of 16 feet, 4.5 inches placing fifth, while junior Zoe Smith followed in sixth with a measurement of 16 feet, 3 inches. The junior also posted a time of 15.37-seconds in the 100-meter hurdles taking home third out of 10 competitors.
Junior Elizabeth Balzarini threw the shot put a measurement of 38 feet, 11 inches for a career best mark, finishing seventh of 12 competitors. Freshman Krista Stracqualursi followed the junior with a mark of 37 feet, 10 inches, good for eighth in the shot put. Both also competed in the discus throw, as Balzarini finished 12th and Straqualursi took home fourth with a mark of 128 feet. Junior Shayla Lyons joined the duo in the discus throw leading the Skyhawks with a mark of 128 feet, 7 inches, finishing third among the 14 competitors, as she threw the hammer a measurement of 132 feet, 10 inches, good for seventh.

Junior Sinead O'Brien finished sixth overall in the 200-meter dash with a career best time of 26.33-seconds, as she finished 14th of 22 in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.16-seconds. Senior Colleen Perry followed O'Brien in the 200-meter dash with a time of 27.61-seconds finishing 15th overall.
Freshman Isabella Kennedy was one of six competitors to break five-minutes in the 1500-meter run clocking in at 4:56.93 finishing fourth out of 17. Senior Adrienne Santoro followed the freshman with her time of 4:58.50, good for fifth.
Along with Smith in the 100-meter hurdles, freshman Savanna Macaluso clocked in at 16.29-seconds taking home sixth, as Perry was next with her time of 16.49-seconds.
Freshman Claire Mason led the Skyhawks in the 800-meter run clocking in a time of 2:25.02, finishing eighth out of 14, while Kelly Higgins rounded out the top 10 with her time of 2:28.21.
Junior Ashley Colarusso finished sixth in the field 16 in pole vault clearing a height of 11 feet 1.75 inches.

Junior Kathleen Giusti rounded out the high jumpers clearing a height of 5 feet, 1 inch, finishing sixth out of 15.
Freshman Isabelle Angelini was the lone Skyhawk in the javelin throw finishing fourth of nine competitors with a distance of 108 feet, 9 inches.
Junior Claire Hurtado just missed the top 10 in the 800-meter run with her time of 2:29.52, finishing 11th overall. Senior Krista Fernandes followed in 12th with her time of 2:31.51, as sophomore Fiona Jordan clocked in a time of 2:34.42 for 14th
Junior Danika Wayss rounded out the Skyhawks in the 1500-meter run, finishing ninth out of 17 competitors crossing the finishing line in 5:03.75.
Freshman Rebecca Erhard was the lone Skyhawk in the 3000-meter run finishing 19th out of 27 competitors with a time of 11:12.90 in her first collegiate outdoor meet.
Jesica Litwa finished 10th in the discus throw with a mark of 103 feet, 7 inches and 11th in the hammer throw with a measurement of 108 feet.
Stonehill will send a group of Skyhawks to the Colonial Relays in Williamsburg, Virginia hosted by the College of Williams & Mary from Thursday, April 4 to Saturday, April 6 at the Walter J. Zable Stadium.
