USTFCCCA Announces 2019 Indoor Track & Field All-Region Teams
EASTON, Massachusetts (March 7, 2019) – Eighteen members of the Stonehill College women's track and field team, who is ranked No. 1 in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NCAA Division II East Regional Computer Rankings, combined for 26 All-East Region honors from the USTFCCCA.
The awards recognize each region's top five performers in individual events and top three teams in relay events. Three out of the 18 Skyhawks earned their first-career All-East Region honor, while three led Stonehill with three honors each.
The 4000-meter distance medley relay team, comprised of Jillian Caiazzi, Krista Fernandes, Anna Lastra and Alyssa Freeman was recognized by the USTFCCA for their time of 11:55.84, which was converted from a flat track time of 12:03.51. This time put them 22nd on the NCAA Division II performance list. The 4x400-meter relay team, including Ashley Colarusso, Fernandes, Casey Gannon, and Claire Hurtado clocked in a time of 4:03.30 at the NE10 Indoor Track & Field Championships at Smith College where the quartet finished third for an All-Conference honor.
Caiazzi totaled three All-East Region honors, including one with the DMR, to bring her total to five accolades in her career. Caiazzi clocked in a season-best time of 2:14.51 at the Boston University David Hemery Valentine Invitational in the 800-meter run, just missing out on a NCAA provisional qualifying time by .36 of a second. The Marlborough, Massachusetts native ran a 5:10.11 mile time at the Beantown Challenge in January, less than a second shy of her career best time.
Fernandes now brings her career total to nine with her three All-East Region accolades. She earned one with the DMR and the 4x400-relay team, while also collecting one for the 400-meter run. Her season best time was run at the Boston University Last Chance Qualifier where she clocked in a time of 57.62, one second off an NCAA provisional qualifying time.
Lastra was the third Skyhawk to earn three All-East Region honors, bringing her career total to 11 with two cross country awards. The junior has now helped the DMR qualify for Nationals for three-straight years. She also saw a season best time in the 3000-meter run clocking in at 10:22.75 at the URI Coaches' Tribute Invitational in early February. The Bridgton, Maine native was the runner up at the NE10 Championship in the mile finishing with a time of 5:06.50.
Senior Olivia Dexter earned two All-East Region honors this season in the 60-meter dash and the 200-meter run, bringing her career total to 12. Dexter was the runner up in the 60-meter sprint at the NE10 Championship clocking in a time of 7.62 for a career best and new school record, where she finished 30th on the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying list. Dexter also provisionally qualified in the 200-meter run with a school record time of 24.89 at the NE10 Championship, where she finished third for an All-Conference honor and it put her 55th on the NCAA provisional qualifying list.
Colarusso previously saw all four All-East Region honors from the pole vault, but this season she also earned one from the 4x400-meter relay team bringing her career total to six. The junior cleared a career best height of 11 feet 4.25 inches at the Boston University Last Chance Meet. Colarusso fought her way to second place as three pole vaulters tied throughout the event and they broke the tie through a jump off where she best her initial height of 11 feet, 0.25 inches.
Gannon and Hurtado's lone All-East Region accolade this season was from the 4x400-meter relay team, where Gannon earned her second-career honor and Hurtado her first-career honor. Freeman tallied her fourth-career regional honor after assisting the DMR to a NCAA provisional qualifying time.
Three Skyhawks earned their All-Region honors in the 5000-meter runs. Senior Makenzie Cyr clocked a season best time of 18:14.51 at the Branwen Smith-King Invitational in January, earning her third All-East Region honor in track & field and her seventh in her career. Classmate Jackie Cutillo collected her third-career accolade with a time of 18:20.75 in the 5000-meter run for a career best at the NE10 Championships. Junior Jordan Callahan also saw a career-best time and third-career All-East Region honor in the 5000-meter run at the NE10 Championships finishing in 18:20.82, just behind Cutillo.
Senior Colleen Perry broke her previous school record in the pentathlon totaling 3,143 points for her second All-Conference honor and runner up mark at the NE10 Championship, earning her second-career All-East Region award.
Junior Zoe Smith broke the previous school record in the 60-meter hurdles running a career-best time of 8.92-seconds at the NE10 Championship to finish as the runner up of the event, for her second-career regional award.
Shayla Lyons tallied her fourth-career accolade with a season best toss of 42 feet, 3.25 inches at the Howlin Husky Invitational in December.
Madison Ward earned her fifth-straight All-East Region honor in the high jump with a NCAA provisionally qualifying height of 5 feet, 5.75 inches. She cleared this at the Branwen Smith-King Invitational in January where she finished first in the event and is 31st on the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying list.
Sophomore Alexandra Sexton earned her third-straight All-East Region honor in the pole vault as she cleared a career best height of 11 feet, 4.5 inches at the NE10 Championship earning the runner up mark and her third All-Conference honor.
Classmate Sophia Anderle ran a career-best time of 10:21.86 at the NE10 Championships finishing in second place for her first-career All-Conference accolade and this time earned her her first-career All-East Region honor.
Jillian Howard, also a sophomore ran a season best time of 5:14.03 at the NE10 Championships finishing third behind Lastra. Howard earned her first-career All-East Region honor.
Stonehill concluded the indoor season with their sixth-straight NE10 Indoor Track & Field Championship, where the women have now won 11-straight Championships with cross country, indoor and outdoor track & field. Over the past 17 NE10 Championships, the Stonehill women have won 16 of them.
