Northeast 10 Indoor Track and Field Report: Week 5

EASTON, Mass. (January 30, 2019) – Stonehill College's women's track and field saw senior Makenzie Cyr, junior Madison Ward, and the 4x800-meter relay team earn Northeast-10 Conference of the Week honors, as announced by the league on Tuesday.

Cyr was named the NE10 Track Athlete of the Week for her first honor on the year, as she finished first at the Branwen Smith-King Invitational, hosted by Tufts University, where she helped the team to first place out of 19 teams on Saturday. The senior posted a season best time and new meet record of 18:14.51 in the 5000-meter run, which qualified her for New England's and put her at the top of the NE10 performance list and 27th on the New England Championship performance list.

Ward was tabbed the NE10 Field Athlete of the Week as she also earned first place in the high jump this weekend, also at Tufts. The junior cleared a career-best height in the high jump with a mark of 5 feet, 5.75 inches, which matches the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying height. This was the first time in her career making the NCAA performance list, as the height also broke the previous school record of 5 feet, 5.25 inches. She currently sits second on the NE10 performance list, 15th on the New England Championship performance list, and 21st on the NCAA performance list.

The Skyhawks also saw the women's 4x800-meter relay team post a first-place finish to be named NE10 Women's Relay Team of the Week. The team included Jillian Caiazzi, Kelly Higgins, Alyssa Freeman, and Anna Lastra who posted a time of 9:30.47 out of six teams. Caiazzi kicked off the first 800 meters with a time of 2:20.8 and handed off the baton to Higgins who ran a time of 2:28.2. Freeman took the baton in the third leg and clocked in an unofficial time of 2:24.5, while Lastra ran the anchor leg running a time of 2:23.4 to top the second place team, Tufts University, by roughly 30 seconds. This time puts the quartet on top of the NE10 performance list and seventh on the New England Championships performance list as the first Division II team on it.

Stonehill will now send those that have qualified to the New England Championships this weekend from Friday, February 1 to Saturday, February 2 at the Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center in Dorchester, Massachusetts.
