Tobin earns Stonehill its' first All-New England honor at the Championship

HANOVER, N.H. (May 11, 2018) – The Stonehill College women's track and field team, ranked first in the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association East Regional poll saw one All-New England honors on the opening day of the New England Championships, 131^st edition at Memorial Field on the campus of Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire on Friday.

Senior Alison Tobin (Hudson, Massachusetts/Hudson) finished fourth among 23 pole vaulters Friday afternoon. Tobin earned her first All-New England honor of her career, as she cleared a height of 12 feet, 5.5 inches. Tobin was ranked seventh out of the field on the performance list prior to competing.

After finishing third in heat four of the 100-meter hurdles, sophomore Zoe Smith (Rochester, Massachusetts/Old Rochester Regional) placed eighth overall out of 24 competitors and qualified for finals tomorrow. Her personal best time of 14.73-seconds at the Championship was her first appearance in her career as she was 17^th on the performance list prior to competing.

Junior Olivia Dexter (East Calais, Vermont Union 32) qualified for both the 100-meter and 200-meter dash finals after day one competition. Her second-place finish in the 100-meter dash in her heat with a time of 12.11-seconds ranked fifth overall as she was the first Division II competitor in the top five. She also took second in her heat in the 200-meter dash with a time of 25.07-seconds ranking sixth overall as one of three Division II qualifiers in the field.

Senior Emily Polvere (Somers, New York/Somers), competing in her fourth outdoor Championship, clocked in a time of 26.09 in the 200-meter dash, finishing fifth in her heat.

Freshman Casey Gannon (Warwick, Rhode Island/Toll Gate), in her first outdoor New England Championship posted a 12^th-place finish among 31 competitors with a time of 1:05.03. Junior Krista Fernandes (Taunton, Massachusetts/Coyle and Cassidy), who was predicted 17^th, matched her ranking with a time of 1:05.77.

Fiona Jordan (Norwood, Massachusetts/Norwood) qualified for her first New England Championship as she finished 30^th with a time of 1:00.03 in the 400-meter run.

Senior Emily Knox (Worcester, Massachusetts/Notre Dame Academy) ran the 5000-meter in 18:13.10 taking 23^rd overall competing in her second New England Championships.

Stonehill will continue competing at Memorial Field in day two of the New England Championships. Competition will begin at 10:00 a.m. with the Heptathlon, followed by the field events starting at noon and the track events also starting at noon.
