Gannon Earns Third NE10 Track Rookie of the Week Award

Gannon competes in another three events for her third NE10 weekly honor of the season

NE10 Outdoor Track & Field Report: Week 5

EASTON, Mass. (May 3, 2018) – Stonehill College's women's track and field freshman Casey Gannon (Warwick, Rhode Island/Toll Gate) tallied her third Northeast-10 Conference Track Rookie of the Week award this week as she competed in three events at the 11th Annual Skyhawk Invitational, as announced by the league.  

Gannon competed in three events at the 11th Annual Skyhawk Invitational this past weekend, hosted by Stonehill College at W.B. Mason Stadium, including the 100- and 400-meter hurdles and the 4x400-meter relay. She posted a sixth-place result in the 100-meter hurdles clocking in at 14.92-seconds, as the first Division II competitor across the finish line. Her time qualified her for New England's and has her ranked 42nd on the performance list, while this time puts her third on the NE10 performance list.

In the 400-meter hurdles, the freshman clocked in a time of 1:03.92 taking home second, which was 0.04-seconds off her personal best time of 1:03.88. She is currently 33rd on the New England's qualifying list and third on the NE10 list.

In the third event, the 4x400-meter relay, Gannon assisted the quartet to a third-place finish as the first Division II team across the stripe. The squad of Gannon, Ashley Colarusso (Tewksbury, Massachusetts/Tewksbury), Claire Hurtado (Newington, Connecticut/Northwest Catholic) and Fiona Jordan (Norwood, Massachusetts/Norwood) finished in 4:03.07. Currently the relay team is placed second on the NE10 performance list with their time of 4:01.67 from the Silfen Invitational.

Gannon tallied her second NE10 Track Rookie of the Week award, as she competed in the 100-meter and 400-meter hurdles at the Silfen Invitational. The freshman earned her first individual title this season as she took home the title in the 400-meter hurdles clocking in a personal best time of 1:03.88. She earned first by finishing three seconds faster than second-place Krista Fernandes (Taunton, Massachusetts/Coyle and Cassidy) who crossed the finish line at 1:06.43. 

The Warwick, Rhode Island native also clocked in a personal best time of 15.77 in the 100-meter hurdles. She was the first freshman across the finish line in the event. 

Gannon also won NE10 Rookie of the Week when she competed in three events at the 53rd Colonial Relays in Williamsburg, Virginia. In the 400-meter hurdles, Gannon clocked in at 1:04.71 finishing 21st out of 58 competitors qualifying her for New England's. She also finished 39th out of 54 competitors in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.62. For her third event, Gannon ran the second leg of the race in the 4x400-meter relay clocking in an unofficial split of 59.5, assisting the quartet in a sixth-place result out of eight teams. 

Stonehill is back in action this weekend, when it opens its championship schedule at the Northeast-10 Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Southern Connecticut State University, at Jess Dow Field on Friday and Saturday.
