Two Skyhawks bypass NCAA provisional marks

BOSTON, Mass. (February 9, 2018) – The Stonehill College women's track and field team split time at the URI Coaches' Tribute Meet, hosted by the University of Rhode Island, and the David Hemery Valentine Invitational, hosted by Boston University Friday, February 9.
Stonehill's juniors Jillian Caiazzi (Marlborough, Massachusetts/Marlborough) and Elizabeth Hannon (Franklin, Massachusetts/Bishop Feehan) led the Skyhawks by surpassing the NCAA provisional marks for their respective events at Boston University.

Caiazzi clocked in at a personal best time of 2:13.96, finishing 39th in the 800-meter run out of 167 competitors. Hannon narrowly bypassed the NCAA provisional mark in the mile with a time of 4:59.67 finishing 60th out of 249 competitors.
Sophomore Alyssa Freeman (Billerica, Massachusetts/Billerica Memorial) also competed in the 800-meter sprint, clocking in a time of 2:18.51.
Senior Emily Knox (Worcester, Massachusetts/Notre Dame Academy) finished close behind Hannon with a personal best time of 5:01.50 crossing the finish line in 66th in the mile. Sophomores Anna Lastra (Bridgton, Maine/Fryeburg Academy) and Kelly Higgins (Weymouth, Massachusetts/Weymouth) placed 107th clocking in 5:09.36 and 126th in 5:12.78, respectively.
Junior Krista Fernandes (Taunton, Massachusetts/Coyle and Cassidy) crossed the finish line with a personal best time of 57.06 in the 400-meter dash, placing 32nd out of 155 competitors.
Junior Olivia Dexter (East Calais, Vermont/Union 32) placed 24th in the 200-meter run with a time of 25.01, while senior Emily Polvere (Somers, New York/Somers) wasn't far behind with a personal best time of 25.62, good for 46th place. Polvere also competed in the 60-meter dash, finishing 11th with a time of 8.15.
URI Coaches' Tribute Invitational
Alison Tobin (Hudson, Massachusetts/Hudson) finished fifth in the 200-meter sprint with a personal best time of 26.30, while Casey Gannon (Warwick, Rhode Island/Toll Gate) and Fiona Jordan (Norwood, Massachusetts/Norwood) clocked in at a personal best time of 26.77, good for seventh, and a personal best time of 27.16, good for eighth.
Jordan also competed in the 500-meter run, crossing the finish line second, with a personal best time of 1:20.62. Gannon also placed sixth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.42, as Zoe Smith (Rochester, Massachusetts/Old Rochester Regional) finished seventh with a time of 9.49. Tobin finished third in the pole vault with a mark of 10 feet, 11.75 inches, good for third, as Alexandra Sexton (Los Gatos, California/Los Gatos) placed fifth with a height of 10 feet, six inches.
Sophomore Claire Hurtado (Newington, Connecticut/Northwest Catholic) finished the 800-meter run with a time of 2:28.78.
In the mile, junior Makenzie Cyr (Douglas, Massachusetts/Douglas) finished the race as the first Division II competitor with a personal best time of 5:16.08 good for second. Isabel Baker (Charlestown, Rhode Island/Chariho) was the next Skyhawk across the finish line with a personal best time of 5:22.63, good for sixth place, while Jordan Callahan (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) finished seventh with a personal best time of 5:27.43. Julie Schultz (Billerica, Massachusetts/Billerica) and Jackie Cutillo (Foxboro, Massachusetts/Bishop Feehan) wrapped up the top 10 clocking in at 5:31.63, good for ninth, and 5:33.70, good for 10th, respectively.

Freshman Samantha Curtin (Plymouth, Massachusetts/Plymouth North) was the second freshman to cross the finish line in the 3000-meter run with a personal best time of 10:40.82, good for fourth out of 15 competitors.
Ashley Daggett (Attleboro, Massachusetts/Attleboro) and Madison Ward (Holliston, Massachusetts/Holliston) placed fourth and fifth, respectively in the high jump hitting a mark of 5 feet, 4.25 inches each.
Sophomore Shayla Lyons (Westerlo, New York/Bishop Maginn/Berne-Knox Westerlo) was the first Division II competitor to place in the top five with a distance of 41 feet, 7.75 inches in the shot put, while senior Gaelin Farrell (Baldwinville, Massachusetts/Narragansett Regional) tossed the shot put 39 feet, 8 inches, good for sixth.
Sophomore Jesica Litwa (Seymour, Massachusetts/Seymour) hit a personal best mark of 49 feet, 6.25 inches in the weight throw placing fifth out of 21 competitors.
Stonehill continues championship season with the Northeast-10 Conference Championship at Smith College Indoor Track in Northampton, Massachusetts from Saturday, February 17 – Sunday, February 18.
