Lastra Earns Her Fourth NE10 Track Rookie of the Week Honor

Northeast 10 Indoor Track & Field Report: Week 8

EASTON, Mass. (February 14, 2017) – Stonehill College women's track and field freshman Anna Lastra (Bridgton, Maine/Fryeburg Academy) has now been named to the Northeast-10 Conference Weekly Awards as the Track Rookie of the Week for the fourth time this season, as announced by the league on Tuesday.

Lastra posted a career-best time of 10:04.55 in the 3000-meter event at the Hemery Valentine Invitational, hosted by Boston University, on Friday, February 10. The freshman finished 58th at the meet, moving her up to third in the conference behind senior teammate Nicole Borofski (Plymouth, Mass./Plymouth North) and Adelphi University's freshman Rebecca Celorio, who sit first and second, respectively.  

Lastra was also part of the distance medley relay that earned the NE10 Women's Relay Team of the Week, which included teammates Krista Fernandes (Taunton, Mass./Coyle and Cassidy), Jillian Caiazzi (Marlborough, Mass./Marlborough) and Borofski finished fourth with a time of 11:45.29 at the Bruce Lehane Scarlett & White Invitational, hosted by Boston University on Friday, February 3.

Lastra tallied her third individual honor by topping all 1000-meter competitors by finishing first with a time of 3:01.83 at the Tufts Stampede on Saturday, January 28. The freshman crossed the finish line four seconds in front of the second-place Tufts University runner.

The Bridgton, Maine Native competed in her first 3000-meter run and earned second place with a time of 10:15.94 in the URI Sorlein Invitational. This mark was recognized by the NE10, as she earned her second Rookie of the Week award, while it also bypassed both the NE10 and New England qualifications.

Lastra opened up with her first collegiate indoor track and field meet on Saturday, January 14 at the Beantown Challenge, hosted by Harvard University. The freshman posted a personal best time of 5:10.95 in the mile run finishing eighth in the 20 runner event. The Bridgton, Maine native finished behind seven Division I institutions including UMass Lowell, Harvard, UMass Amherst, Northeastern, and Rutgers. This was also the third best time in the NE10 over the weekend.

Stonehill competes in the NE10 Championship on Saturday, February 18 at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center with a start time of 4:00 p.m.
