DEDHAM, Mass.-- Both Stonehill outdoor track and field teams began their respective 2005 seasons on Saturday afternoon by competing at the Northeastern Snowflake Classic at Solomon Track.

Freshman Richard Gerry (Bow, N.H.) won the men’s 1,500 meters with a time of 4:05.1, while the men’s 4 X 100 relay team of senior Sotirios Pintzopoulos (North Reading, Mass.), sophomores Kevin Dubuc (East Greenwich, R.I.) and Vinnie Williams (Springfield, Mass.) and junior Paul Viggiano (Trumbull, Conn.) emerged victorious in that event with a time of 43.31 that automatically qualifies the quartet for the All-New England Championships that will take place in May. Pintzopoulos and Williams were the first two collegiate runners across the finish line in the men’s 100 meters, posting times of 11.41 and 11.49, respectively, to finish second and third in the event.

On the women’s side, sophomore Dana DeIngenis (Cranston, R.I.) placed third for the Chieftains in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4:58.

Both Stonehill squads return to action next Saturday morning by heading to New Haven, Conn. to compete at the Southern Connecticut Invitational that begins at 10:00 a.m.
