Chivakos, Smith And Golankiewicz Earn All-New England Honors In Respective Events For Women's Indoor Track And Field At New England Championships

BOSTON, Mass.-- A total of seven school records were set by both Stonehill indoor track and field teams over the weekend at the 2005 New England Championships hosted by Boston University, as three individuals earned all-New England honors on the women’s side for their efforts.

Senior Dianna Chivakos (South Hamilton, Mass.) finished third in the mile for the Chieftain women with a time of 4:52.16 in earning all-New England honors, as she set a school record and qualified for the NCAA Division II national championships in the event. Junior Erin Smith (Brockton, Mass.) was fifth in the 5,000 meters to earn all-New England accolades and qualify provisionally for the NCAA’s in the event with a time of 17:24.38, while freshman Sharon Golankiewicz (New Milford, Conn.) was eighth in the high jump to set a school record mark of 5-feet, 3 inches and earn all-New England honors in the process. Sophomore Dana DeIngenis (Cranston, R.I.) also set a school record in the 800 meters with a time of 2:17.64 for Stonehill.

On the men’s side, senior Sotirios Pintzopoulos (North Reading, Mass.) set the school record in the 55 meters with a time of 6:55, while sophomore Vinnie Williams (Springfield, Mass.) set a school mark in the 200 meters with a time of 22.15 and qualified provisionally for the NCAA indoor championships. Sophomore Dana Burbank (North Andover, Mass.) tied the school record in the 55 meter high hurdles with a time of 7.91 during the two-day competition.

Both Stonehill squads return to Boston University next weekend for the IC4A Championships that will be held on both Friday and Saturday, March 4th and 5th.
