Hawkins and Lee lead six double-winners for Division I Bruins

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (March 7, 2019) – Stonehill College, ranked No. 3 in the Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional rankings, was dealt a 7-0 setback by Division I Belmont University in non-conference women's tennis action tonight at the Centennial Sportsplex.

Sophomore Drew Hawkins and freshman Peyton Lee led six double-winners in the match for Belmont. The duo combined to lead a doubles sweep as the Bruins dropped just four games combined over the three matches, with their 6-1 victory at No. 1 doubles. Hawkins followed that up with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles against Stonehill junior Alexandra Vo, the No. 14-ranked singles player in the East Region by the ITA. Lee posted an identical score line in her win at No. 2 singles against freshman Samantha Ormesher.

Stonehill sophomore Bethany Hammond battled back at No. 4 singles after dropping the opening set 6-2 to Belmont sophomore Maria Plaksina, winning the second, 6-4, before falling in the third set super tiebreaker, 11-9.

Stonehill (13-3, 11-0 NE10) is scheduled to host College of the Holy Cross on Friday, April 12, at 5 p.m. Belmont (6-5, 0-0 OVC) hosts University of Dayton next Thursday at 10 a.m.
