Tutecky, Merz and Madison all double-winners for Beavers

NEEDHAM, Mass. (February 24, 2019) – Babson College won five of six singles matches on its way to a 7-2 victory over Stonehill College, ranked No. 3 in the Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association Division II East Region rankings, in non-conference women's tennis action at the Boston Sports Club this afternoon.

Sophomore Alexa Tutecky led three double-winners in the match for Babson. She teamed up with classmate Nastasia Tamarkin for an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles as the Beavers held a 2-1 edge after doubles play. Tutecky followed that up with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Stonehill sophomore Isabelle Porter, ranked 12th in the Oracle/ITA East Region singles rankings, at No. 1.

Sophomores Carolina Merz and Marissa Madison also notched singles and doubles wins for Babson. The duo combined for an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles over the Division II East Region's tenth-ranked doubles team to clinch the 2-1 edge in doubles play. Merz added a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 3 singles against freshman Samantha Ormesher, while Madison defeated freshman Emma Markaryan 6-2, 6-2 at No. 4.

Junior Caroline Ray and sophomore Annelise Howick teamed up to win Stonehill's doubles point with their 8-6 win at No. 3. Junior Alexandra Vo, ranked No. 14 in the Oracle/ITA East Region singles rankings, battled back from a set down for a 1-6, 6-2, 6-4 triumph over Tamarkin at No. 2 singles for the Skyhawks.

Stonehill (13-2, 11-0 NE10) returns to the courts on Thursday, March 7, when it visits Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee. The Skyhawks are scheduled to host College of the Holy Cross on Friday, April 12, at 5 p.m. Babson (2-1, 0-0 NEWMAC) hosts Colby-Sawyer College on Saturday, March 9, at 4 p.m.
