Skyhawks ranked No. 50, their first national ranking since 2010
Oracle/ITA Division II National Rankings (March 28)
EASTON, Mass. (March 29, 2018) – The Northeast-10 Conference regular season champion Stonehill College women's tennis team has returned to the Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II national rankings for the first time in eight years at No. 50 in the most recent rankings released this week.
It marks the third time in program history at Stonehill has been nationally-ranked, having appeared at No. 44 in the final 2009 ranking after reaching the NCAA Division II Championships "Sweet 16" during the 2008-09 season and then No. 48 in the November 2010 preseason rankings. The Skyhawks are coming off a fall season in which they captured their eighth NE10 regular season championship with a 12-0 record to post the fifth unbeaten regular season in program history. Stonehill was edged by Adelphi University, ranked No. 46 in the latest rankings, in the NE10 Championship, 5-4.
Stonehill, under the direction of NE10 Coach of the Year Marc Maloney, is 14-3 overall, including the 12-0 NE10 mark, while posting a 3-2 record against regionally-ranked teams. The Skyhawks are ranked No. 6 in the most recent Oracle/ITA East Regional rankings released in January. Stonehill is led by six first team All-NE10 performers, including senior Emma Prinos (Foxboro, Massachusetts/Foxboro), sophomore Alexandra Vo (Washington Crossing, Pennsylvania/Nazareth Academy) and freshman Isabelle Porter (Jupiter, Florida/William T. Dwyer) in singles play, with Vo and sophomore Annelise Howick (Jacksonville, Florida/Creekside), as well as senior Colleen O'Donnell (Waterville, Maine/Waterville) and freshman Bethany Hammond (Belgrade, Maine/Saint Dominic) all earning first team honors for doubles.
Stonehill (14-3, 12-0 NE10), which dropped a pair of matches to Sunshine State Conference programs over spring break, continues its quest to lock up an at large bid to the upcoming NCAA Championships next month, when it visits Brandeis University for a non-conference match on Thursday, April 5, at 3 p.m. The Skyhawks visit the University of the Sciences in Philadelphia on Saturday, April 7, at 1 p.m. The 2018 NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championships field will be announced on Tuesday, April 24, at 8:30 p.m.
