NE10 Women's Tennis Weekly Report

EASTON, Mass. (September 26, 2017) – Stonehill College sophomore Alexandra Vo (Washington Crossing, Pennsylvania/Nazareth Academy) and freshman Isabelle Porter (Jupiter, Florida/William T. Dwyer) have both earned weekly women's tennis honors, the Northeast-10 Conference office announced today.

Vo earns NE10 Player of the Week honors for the first time in her career after collecting Rookie of the Week honors three times as a freshman on her way to being named the NE10 Rookie of the Year. Porter collects NE10 Rookie of the Week accolades for the first time as the duo spearheaded a strong performance by the Stonehill women's tennis program at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional, presented by Oracle, at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center over the weekend.

Vo posted a combined 7-2 record in singles and doubles play for the week, opening with a pair of wins in Stonehill's 9-0 triumph over the University of New Haven in the Skyhawks lone NE10 dual match of the week. She reached the Round of 16 in both the singles and doubles draw of the ITA East Regional in Flushing, New York, over the weekend, upsetting a pair of regionally-ranked opponents along the way. Vo emerged from Friday's qualifying bracket to the main draw of the singles championship, posting a 7-5, 6-0 win over Josefina Torres Martin, from Concordia (N.Y.) College in the first round of the championship bracket, and then cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 victory over No. 5-seed Laura Ortega Jover from Queens (N.Y.) College in the second round before being edged in the Round of 16.

Vo also teamed up with freshman Kate Cunningham (Somerset, England/IMG Academy) to reach the doubles championship Round of 16. The duo upset No. 3-seed Jover and Reehan Rashad from Queens, 8-3 in the round of 32, before being defeated by eventual finalists Anna Hortelano Pey and Frederika Regner from Goldey-Beacom College.

Porter was part of a doubles team that reached the semifinals at this weekend's ITA Regional, while reaching the singles's Round of 16.

Porter and Vo both advanced further in the ITA singles championship than any other student-athlete in program history at Stonehill, while Porter also combined with senior Victoria Barbetta (Wesley Chapel, Florida/Saddlebrook Prep (Fla.)) to make further program history by advancing to the semifinal round of the doubles bracket, marking the deepest run at the ITAs in program history overall. Among the wins for the Skyhawks on their run was an 8-3 win over Sofia Morias and Anna Sala, Southern New Hampshire University's top doubles pairing, in the Round of 16. They followed that up with an 8-5 quarterfinal round win against Mia Briggs and Cassie Restrepo from Merrimack College before dropping an 8-1 decision to No. 2-seed Alessia Rossetti and Lena Dimmer from New York Tech, the eventual champions, in the semifinals.

Porter posted a combined 10-2 record in singles and doubles play for the week. She notched wins at No. 1 doubles, with Barbetta, and No. 3 singles in Stonehill's 9-0 win over New Haven in their lone dual match of the week.

Vo, an All-NE10 first team performer at No. 2 singles as a freshman, is a combined 15-2 in singles and doubles play so far this season. She has posted an 8-1 singles record, including 3-0 in NE10 play, to improve to 15-0 in her career in NE10 singles matches. Vo enters the week with a 44-13 record in singles and doubles play for her career. She is 25-3 in singles play and 19-10 for doubles for her career, posting a combined 26-4 singles and doubles record in NE10 play.

Porter is a combined 17-3 in singles and doubles play early on in her first collegiate season, including a 9-1 singles record, while she and Barbetta have teamed up to post an 8-2 record at No. 1 doubles for Stonehill. Porter is 3-0 for singles in NE10 play, while she and Barbetta are 2-1 in NE10 doubles matches.

Stonehill (5-0, 3-0 NE10), ranked No. 6 in the latest Oracle/ITA Division II East Regional rankings, returns to NE10 dual match play tomorrow, when it visits Franklin Pierce University at 2:30 p.m. The Skyhawks return home on Saturday to host Saint Anselm College for an NE10 match at Charles Watt Tennis Courts at 2 p.m.
