EASTON, Mass. (September 16, 2017) – In a match which had more ups and downs, twists and turns, than any amusement park rollercoaster, Stonehill College, ranked No. 6 in the most recent Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional rankings, notched a 6-3 triumph over Adelphi University, ranked No. 5 in the region, in Northeast-10 Conference women's tennis action at Charles Watt Tennis Courts this afternoon.

Senior Colleen O'Donnell (Waterville, Maine/Waterville) and sophomore Alexandra Vo (Washington Crossing, Pennsylvania/Nazareth Academy) led Stonehill to its first win over Adelphi in eight matches, including four 5-4 defeats, dating back to an 8-1 win in March 2013, with both singles and doubles victories. Freshman Isabelle Porter (Jupiter, Florida/William T. Dwyer), along with O'Donnell, were among three Skyhawks to clinch three-set triumphs, delivering a 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 victory over Panthers senior Elizabeth Kallenberg (Port Washington, New York/Paul D. Schreiber) at No. 3 singles to clinch the team win.

Vo combined with sophomore Annelise Howick (Jacksonville, Florida/Creekside) for an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles that clinched a 2-1 Stonehill edge after doubles play. Vo followed that up by earning the Skyhawks first singles point with her 6-4, 6-3 decision at No. 2 singles against Adelphi freshman Nicole Kielan (Valley Stream, New York/Valley Stream South).

O'Donnell followed that up by grinding out a key 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 victory at No. 5 singles against Adelphi junior Karen Serina (East Islip, New York/East Islip) that drew the Skyhawks within a point of the team win. Sophomore Caroline Ray (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) also notched a three-set win, rallying from 5-1 down in the third to slip past senior Vanja Savic (Woodside, New York/Beacon School) 6-4, 3-6, 7-5.

Senior Rebecca Fakas (Little Neck, New York/Benjamin N. Cardozo), the No. 16-ranked singles player in the East Region, earned two points for Adelphi. She and Serina, the region's No. 4-ranked doubles team, notched the Panthers lone doubles point with an 8-5 win at No. 1.
