Vo posts doubles and singles wins, O'Donnell caps rally for Skyhawks

MANCHESTER, N.H. (September 24, 2016) – Stonehill College, ranked sixth in the Oracle/Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional rankings, rallied by sweeping the bottom three spots in the singles lineup to clinch a key 5-4 victory over Southern New Hampshire University, ranked seventh in the region, in Northeast-10 Conference women's tennis action at Penman Courts this afternoon.

Freshman Alexandra Vo (Washington Crossing, Pennsylvania/Nazareth Academy) clinched both singles and doubles wins to lead Stonehill to its sixth straight dual match victory. She teamed up with junior captain Victoria Barbetta (Wesley Chapel, Florida/Saddlebrook Prep) to earn the Skyhawks lone doubles point with an 8-6 decision at No. 1. Vo followed that up with a key 6-2, 6-4 decision at No. 2 singles against Southern New Hampshire sophomore Sofia Morais (Porto, Portugal).

Junior Colleen O'Donnell (Waterville, Maine/Waterville) sealed the win for Stonehill with her 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 6 singles against junior Lindsay Baum (North Salem, New York/North Salem) in the final match on the courts. O'Donnell is now 15-0 over her career in NE-10 singles matches as she snapped a 15-match win streak for Baum. Junior Emma Prinos (Foxboro, Massachusetts/Foxboro) and sophomore Nicole Downey (Groveland, Massachusetts/Pentucket Regional) also contributed singles wins for the Skyhawks.

Postgrad Abla Chadli (Rabat, Morocco) and sophomore Anna Sala (Matadepera, Spain) were both double-winners for Southern New Hampshire. The duo teamed up for a 9-8 (7-2) victory at No. 2 doubles, with Baum and sophomore Rachel Wagner (Framingham, Massachusetts/Framingham) notching an 8-6 win at No. 3 doubles for the Penmen. Chadli added a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles against Barbetta, while Sala slipped past Stonehill freshman Carolina Alvarez (Orlando, Florida/Freedom) 7-6 (7-5), 6-3 at No. 3 singles.

Stonehill (6-1, 6-0 NE-10) returns to action tomorrow when it visits American International College for a Northeast-10 match at 1 p.m. The Skyhawks return home on Saturday, October 15, to host The College of Saint Rose for Senior Day at noon. Southern New Hampshire (5-2, 4-2 NE-10) hosts the University of New Haven on Sunday at 1 p.m.
