Women's Tennis Sweeps Saint Michael’s for Second Straight Win, 9-0

Barbetta and Vo lead double-winners for Skyhawks

EASTON, Mass. (September 10, 2016) – Stonehill College won for the second time in as many days as it swept past Saint Michael's College 9-0 in Northeast-10 Conference women's tennis action at Charles Watt Tennis Courts today.

Junior captain Victoria Barbetta (Wesley Chapel, Florida/Saddlebrook Prep) and freshman Alexandra Vo (Washington Crossing, Pennsylvania/Nazareth Academy) led five double-winners for Stonehill in the match. Barbetta combined with freshman Carolina Alvarez (Orlando, Florida/Freedom) for an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles to clinch a sweep of the three doubles matches. Barbetta followed that up with a 6-2, 6-2 decision at No. 1 singles against senior Nicole Kellogg (Burnt Hills, New York/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake).

Vo and junior Colleen O'Donnell (Waterville, Maine/Waterville) teamed up for an 8-0 sweep at No. 2 doubles and then Vo didn't drop a game in her 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles against freshman Abby Ramsey (Bedford, New Hampshire/Bedford). O'Donnell was also among the double winners for the Skyhawks with her 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles against junior Amelia Weeks (Clinton, Washington/South Whidbey) to improve to 11-0 over her career in NE-10 singles matches.

Junior Emma Prinos (Foxboro, Massachusetts/Foxboro) and sophomore Nicole Downey (Groveland, Massachusetts/Pentucket Regional) rounded out the double-winners for Stonehill. The duo notched an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles and then Downey picked up a point at No. 3 singles and Prinos won at No. 5. Freshman Caroline Ray (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) picked up a point for the Skyhawks with her win at No. 6 singles.

Stonehill's (2-1, 2-0 NE-10) regularly scheduled NE-10 match at Saint Anselm College tomorrow has been postponed until Thursday, September 29, at 3 p.m. The Skyhawks will now return to action on Tuesday when they host Merrimack College, ranked 10th in the East Region, at 3 p.m. Saint Michael's (1-2, 1-1 NE-10) visits The College of Saint Rose tomorrow at 1 p.m.
