Holy Cross Defeats Stonehill, 6-1

O'Donnell a double-winner for NE-10 Champion Skyhawks 

PAXTON, Mass. (March 28, 2015) – College of the Holy Cross posted a 6-1 victory over Northeast-10 Conference Champion Stonehill College in non-conference women's tennis action at Paxton Sports Center tonight.

Senior Taylor Stathis (Rockaway Beach, New York/Dominican Academy) and junior Jaclyn Carroll (Tewksbury, Massachusetts/Central Catholic) led three double-winners for Holy Cross. The two combined for an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles and then Stathis followed with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 win over Stonehill freshman Victoria Barbetta (Wesley Chapel, Florida/Saddlebrook Prep). Carroll also claimed a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles against freshman Emma Prinos (Foxboro, Massachusetts/Foxboro).

Freshman Katie Elia (Erie, Pennsylvania/Mercyhurst Prep) rounded out Holy Cross' double-winners. She and junior Abby Henry (Wellesley, Massachusetts/Wellesley) combined for an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles as the Crusaders took two of the three doubles matches to earn the first point of the night.

Freshman Colleen O'Donnell (Waterville, Maine/Waterville) was a double-winner for Stonehill. She earned the Skyhawks point with her 2-6, 6-4, 10-8 comeback victory at No. 4 singles against Henry. O'Donnell and sophomore Amanda DePasquale (Londonderry, New Hampshire/Londonderry) also combined for an 8-3 win at No. 3 doubles.

Stonehill (13-6, 10-2 NE-10) is back in action on Saturday, April 18, when it visits Wellesley College for a non-conference matchup at 1 p.m. The Skyhawks have already earned an automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Championships in May as a result of their NE-10 Championship won last fall. Holy Cross (2-8, 0-5 Patriot League) tomorrow at Sacred Heart University at 1 p.m.
