Stonehill Cruises Past Bentley, 8-1

Paradiso and Prinos lead Skyhawks to second straight win 

EASTON, Mass. (October 17, 2014) – Stonehill College, ranked ninth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division II East Regional rankings, closed out its Northeast-10 Conference regular season schedule with an 8-1 decision over Bentley University in NE-10 women's tennis action at Charles Watt Tennis Courts today.

Stonehill (10-2, 10-2 NE-10) heads into next week's NE-10 Tournament on a winning note with the win and the third-seeded Skyhawks will host sixth-seeded Assumption College (7-7, 7-5 NE-10) for a first round match at Watt Courts on Tuesday, October 21, at 2 p.m. The winner will advance to face second-seeded Southern New Hampshire University (11-1, 11-1 NE-10) in Friday's semifinal round. Bentley closes out its fall season with a 6-6 record overall and in NE-10 play.

Junior Bailey Paradiso (Birmingham, Michigan/Marian) and freshman Emma Prinos (Foxboro, Massachusetts/Foxboro) led the double-winners for Stonehill. The duo battled to an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles as the Skyhawks swept the three doubles matches on their way to their second straight win. Paradiso followed by rolling to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles against Bentley junior Ludmila Yamus (Deer Park, New York/Half Hollow Hills East). Prinos registered a 6-0, 6-2 decision over sophomore Rachel Petrini (Madison, Connecticut/Daniel Hand) at No. 3 singles.

Senior Meryl Lawrence (North Scituate, Rhode Island/Mount Saint Charles Academy) and freshman Colleen O'Donnell (Waterville, Maine/Waterville) also earned singles and doubles wins for Stonehill. They completed the NE-10 season with a perfect 10-0 doubles clip after their 8-2 win at No. 3 today. Lawrence also breezed to a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles against senior Melanie Scott (Southbury, Connecticut/Pomperaug), while O'Donnell added a 6-1, 7-5 victory at No. 6 singles against sophomore Susan Stowe (Hebron, Connecticut/RHAM).

Freshman Victoria Barbetta (Wesley Chapel, Florida/Saddlebrook Prep) rounded out the double winners for Stonehill. She and junior Analise Kump (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) claimed an 8-6 win at No. 2 doubles and then Barbetta registered a 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 4 singles against junior Brittani Hetyei (Vernon, New Jersey/Vernon Township).

Junior Catherine Gianino (Burlington, Massachusetts/Burlington) recorded Bentley's point when Kump retired following doubles play.
