GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (April 25, 2014) – Second-seeded Adelphi University, ranked seventh in the NCAA Division II East Regional rankings and eighth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) East Regional rankings, reeled off five straight points to claim a 5-1 victory over third-seeded and defending champions Stonehill College, ranked ninth in the ITA East Regional rankings, in semifinal round action of the 2014 Northeast-10 Conference Women's Tennis Tournament at Adelphi Courts this afternoon.

Adelphi (13-5, 11-1 NE-10) advances to Sunday's NE-10 Championship match for the first time in program history where it will face the winner of today's second semifinal between top-seeded Merrimack College (13-4, 12-0 NE-10) and fifth-seeded Southern New Hampshire University (13-7, 8-4 NE-10) at the home site of the highest remaining seed at 1 p.m. Stonehill, which sees its run of five straight championship match appearances end, likely sees its season come to a close with a 17-7 record overall, including 10-2 in NE-10 play.

Senior Gaby Adia (Staten Island, N.Y./Notre Dame Academy) spearheaded the Adelphi win with her singles and doubles wins. She combined with junior Joanna Haich (Flushing, N.Y./Francis Lewis) to clinch a 2-1 Adelphi advantage after doubles play with their 8-5 triumph over Stonehill sophomore Analise Kump (Falmouth, Maine/Falmouth) and freshman Lorraine Smith (Littleton, Colo./D'Evelyn) at No. 3 doubles. Adia then provided the match clinching point for the Panthers with her 7-5, 6-1 victory over Kump at No. 4 singles.

Junior Charlotte Moreau (Lyon, France) and sophomore Katarina Barborikova (Puchov, Slovakia) were also double-winners for Adelphi, first combining for an 8-3 victory at No. 1 doubles against senior Kaitlyn Martin (Mattapoisett, Mass./Medway) and sophomore Bailey Paradiso (Birmingham, Mich./Marian). Moreau added a 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles against sophomore Kirsti Toegemann (Narragansett, R.I./The Lincoln School), while Barborikova recorded a 6-2, 6-4 win over Paradiso at No. 2.

Toegemann and junior Meryl Lawrence (North Scituate, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy) teamed up for Stonehill's lone point which gave the Skyhawks a quick 1-0 lead in the match before Adelphi reeled off the next five point to claim the victory. They breezed to an 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles over senior Taylor Ferguson (Franklin Square, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) and freshman Taylor King (Roosevelt, N.Y./Baldwin).
