Mukdaprakorn and Vamvakitis lead Penmen to key NE-10 win
MANCHESTER, N.H. (April 4, 2012) – Southern New Hampshire University, ranked 45th in the ITA Division II national rankings and fourth in the East Region, bounced back from a 2-1 deficit after doubles play to claim a 5-4 victory over Stonehill College, ranked seventh in the region, in a key Northeast-10 Conference women's tennis matchup at SNHU Courts this afternoon.
Junior Alena Mukdaprakorn (Hartford, Conn./Kingswood Oxford) and freshman Diana Vamvakitis (Wading River, N.Y./Westhampton Beach) led Southern New Hampshire to the victory as double-winners as the Penmen overcame a 2-1 deficit following doubles play by winning each of the top four singles flights to clinch the key Conference win. The duo paired to claim SNHU's lone doubles win with an 8-1 triumph over Stonehill senior Sarah Hickey (Lee, Mass./Lee) and junior Paige Frost (Brigantine, N.J./Holy Spirit) at No. 1. Mukdaprakorn then defeated Skyhawks senior Amy Toegemann (Narragansett, R.I./The Lincoln School) 6-4, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, while Vamvakitis topped junior Jennifer Denyes (Bradenton, Fla./St. Stephens Episcopal) 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2.
Junior Amanda Albuquerque (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) helped key the SNHU rally with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Stonehill freshman Katie Gilligan (Wakefield, R.I./The Prout School) at No. 3 singles. Freshman Jamie Hann (Westhampton, N.Y./Westhampton Beach) clinched the win with her 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) triumph over Frost at No. 4 singles. It marks the first NE-10 loss for Frost in singles play after winning the first 30 Conference singles matches of her career.
