Skyhawks drop just three games over 15 sets in spring NE-10 opener
SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (March 24, 2012) – Stonehill College, ranked seventh in the ITA East Regional rankings, returned to Conference play and cruised to a 9-0 victory over American International College in Northeast-10 Conference women's tennis action at Springfield Cathedral High School this afternoon.
Stonehill dropped just three games over 15 total sets in the nine matches played for the afternoon. Senior Sarah Hickey (Lee, Mass./Lee) and juniors Paige Frost (Brigantine, N.J./Holy Spirit) and Jacquelyn Harrow (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) were all double-winners to lead the Skyhawks to the win. Hickey and Frost combined for an 8-2 win at No. 1 doubles over American International seniors Amanda McLean (Branford, Conn./Branford) and Taila de Souza (Cunupia, Trinidad & Tobago). Frost also posted a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles over de Souza, while Lee claimed a 6-0, 6-0 win over junior Martine Turgeon (Monson, Mass./Monson) at No. 4.
Harrow coasted to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles over AIC senior Jessica Hall (Higganum, Conn./Haddam Killingworth). She also combined with senior Bacall Brooks (York, Maine/St. Thomas Aquinas) at No. 2 doubles. Junior Jennifer Denyes (Bradenton, Fla./St. Stephens Episcopal) and freshmen Katie Gilligan (Wakefield, R.I./The Prout School) and Meryl Lawrence (North Scituate, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy) also picked up singles wins for the Skyhawks on the afternoon.
Stonehill (7-3, 5-0 NE-10) is right back in action tomorrow to host Assumption College for an NE-10 matchup on Charles Watt Tennis Courts at 11 a.m. American International (0-4, 0-4 NE-10) travels to Bentley University on Monday at 3:30 p.m.
