Stonehill Bounces Back Against Minnesota St. Moorhead, 8-1

Senior Amy Toegemann posted wins at No. 1 singles and No. 3 doubles to lead the Skyhawks today.

Toegemann leads double-winners for Skyhawks in spring break finale

ORLANDO, Fla. (March 15, 2012) – Stonehill College, ranked seventh in the ITA East Regional rankings, closed out its spring break trip with an 8-1 victory over Minnesota State University Moorhead in non-conference women's tennis action at Lake Cane Tennis Center this afternoon.

Senior Amy Toegemann (Narragansett, R.I./The Lincoln School) led the double-winners for Stonehill as she rallied for a 2-6, 6-3, 10-8 victory over Moorhead senior Kayla Heuther (Brainerd, Minn.) at No. 1 singles. She also combined with sophomore Kaitlyn Martin (Medway, Mass./Medway) for an 8-1 triumph at No. 3 doubles.

Martin was also a double-winner for Stonehill as she coasted to a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles over Moorhead sophomore Kaitlin McNary (Wahpeton, N.D.). Junior Jacquelyn Harrow (North Reading, Mass./North Reading) rounded out the double-winners for Stonehill by notching a 6-1, 6-0 victory over sophomore Jaime LaCoursiere (Thief River Falls, Minn.) at No. 4 singles after teaming up with senior Bacall Brooks (York, Maine/Saint Thomas Aquinas) for an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles.

Freshmen Katie Gilligan (Wakefield, R.I./The Prout School) and Meryl Lawrence (North Scituate, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy) also collected singles wins for the Skyhawks. Gilligan survived a thrilling 4-6, 7-5, 13-11 victory over freshman Jenna Beth Galstad (Alexandria, Minn.) at No. 3 singles.

Senior Alyse Grelson (Cold Spring, Minn.) posted the lone point for Minnesota State with a 3-6, 6-2, 10-8 comeback win over Stonehill junior Jennifer Denyes (Bradenton, Fla./St. Stephens Episcopal) at No. 2 singles.

Stonehill (5-3, 4-0 NE-10) is back in action next week when it returns home to host College of the Holy Cross for a non-conference matchup on Tuesday at Charles Watt Tennis Courts at 3 p.m. Minnesota State Moorhead (2-6, 2-4 NSIC) faces University of Mary on Thursday, March 23, at 6 p.m.
