Stonehill Closes Out Fall with Le Moyne Sweep, 9-0

White and Toegemann lead five double winners for Skyhawks

EASTON, Mass. (October 16, 2011) – Stonehill College closed out its fall season in winning fashion with a dominant 9-0 sweep of Le Moyne College in Northeast-10 Conference women's tennis action at Charles Watt Tennis Courts today.

Seniors Leah White (Walpole, Mass./Bishop Feehan) and Amy Toegemann (Narragansett, R.I./The Lincoln School) led the double-winners for Stonehill as it remained perfect in Conference play heading into the spring portion of the schedule. White grinded out a 6-1, 0-6, 7-6 (7-5) victory over Le Moyne senior Caroline Tisdell (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy), rallying from a 5-2 deficit in the third set to force the deciding tiebreaker. She also combined with junior Jennifer Denyes (Bradenton, Fla./St. Stephens Episcopal) for an 8-1 decision at first doubles.

Toegemann cruised to a 6-1, 6-4 win over junior Rebecca Black (Palmyra, N.Y./Palmyra-Macedon) at No. 2 singles after teaming up with senior Bacall Brooks (York, Maine/Saint Thomas Aquinas) for an 8-1 decision at No. 2 doubles. Denyes also notched a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 3 singles to finish as a double-winner for the Skyhawks along with sophomore Kaitlyn Martin (Medway, Mass./Medway) and freshman Meryl Lawrence (North Scituate, R.I./Mount Saint Charles Academy).

Martin posted a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles, while Lawrence won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 6 after the two combined to claim an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles.

Stonehill (4-1, 4-0 NE-10) will resume play during the spring semester. The spring schedule will posted online in the coming weeks at www.stonehillskyhawks.com. Le Moyne (1-7, 1-7 NE-10) also concluded its fall schedule today.
