United Soccer Coaches Announces Team Academic Award Winners

EASTON, Mass. (October 10, 2019) – The 2018-19 Stonehill College women's soccer team was awarded their second Team Academic Award, as announced by the United Soccer Coaches last week.

The award, which was initiated in the 1996, honors collegiate and high school men's and women's soccer teams that displayed excellence in the classroom during the school year by maintaining at least a 3.00 cumulative team grade-point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale.

United Soccer Coaches recognized 999 teams, 347 men and 652 women. Stonehill College was one of 259 schools to have both their men's and women's programs honored this year. This is the second year that both Stonehill soccer programs have received the award in the programs' histories.

The Skyhawks join American International College, Bentley University, Le Moyne College, the University of New Haven, Pace University, Saint Michael's College, the College of Saint Rose, and Southern Connecticut State University as the Northeast-10 Conference teams to make the list this year.

Senior Kaitlin Brown was named NE10 Goalkeeper of the Year last year, while sophomore Camryn Thompson was tabbed NE10 Rookie of the Year. Brown was named to the NE10 All-Conference first team along with junior Tess Erwin, as Thompson and Courtney Campo '19 were both named to the second team. Both Brown and Emily Scollard '19 were named to the NE10 Academic All-Conference team.

The 2018-19 women's squad finished third in NE10 play with a 10-4 record, while concluding post season play with a 13-7 overall record. Stonehill fell to Assumption College in the quarterfinal round of the NE10 Tournament, but was ranked No. 7 in the East Region receiving their second NCAA Tournament bid in program history.

The 2019-20 squad travels out of region this weekend as they face Lynn University on Friday, October 11 at 6:00 p.m. and follow that with a game on Monday against Barry University also at 6:00 p.m. in Florida.
