ROCKVILLE CENTRE, New York (September 6, 2019) – The Stonehill College women's soccer team fell to Molloy College, 1-0, in their season opener at the John A. Darcy Field in the Molloy College Kickoff Classic on Friday night.

Stonehill's (0-1) Kaitlin Brown registered five saves, while Molloy (1-0) saw Dana Poetzch tally the lone goal as Sarah Tappeto assisted the play and Jackie Carty recorded eight saves.

After the first corner of the game from Kayla Henry, Elizabeth Nerger took a chance at the ball as Carty caught the strike for the first save of the game in the seventh minute.

Following a throw in from Molloy, in the 19th minute of the game down in the Lions' attacking third, Tappeto played the ball on the left top corner of the 18-yard box. She sent it in to Poetzch across the field who put it to the back right post for a 1-0 advantage at 18:37. Stonehill's attack was in full force following the Molloy goal as they wrapped up the first half with seven shots and six corner kicks to lead the game.

In the second half, Brown only saw two shots on goal, while the Skyhawks kept Carty busy with four chances on net. Both teams remained physical as the Lions saw nine fouls to the Skyhawks' six in the second half, but Molloy remained on top to hold on for a 1-0 season opening win.

Stonehill looks to bounce back as they face Dominican (N.Y.) College on Sunday, September 8 to wrap up the Molloy College Kickoff Classic at John A. Darcy Field with a start time of 11:00 a.m.
