Sophomore midfielder Andrea Mancuso scores first career goal in 65th minute for Skyhawks

EASTON, Mass. (October 25, 2014) – Sophomore midfielder Andrea Mancuso (Highland Mills, New York/Cornwall Central) scored her first collegiate goal in the 65th minute as Stonehill College rallied to earn a 1-1 draw against The College of Saint Rose, ranked No. 3 in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division II Poll, on Senior Day today in Northeast-10 Conference women's soccer action at Skyhawk Field.

Just six minutes into the contest, the Golden Knights took a 1-0 lead when senior forward Carmelina Puopolo (Scarborough, Ontario/Cardinal Newman) sent a cross into the box and junior forward Jennifer Busk (Troy, Michigan/Troy) finished the play with her second goal of the season. Freshman Morgan Burchhardt (Burnt Hills, New York/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) was also credited with an assist on the game's opening goal.

Saint Rose carried its lead into the half, but Stonehill stepped up its pressure after the break and was able to create several scoring opportunities.

Sophomore forward Lauren Kapatoes (Hopedale, Massachusetts/Hopedale) nearly tied the match in the 60th minute, when her header was deflected off the crossbar following a cross into the box by junior midfielder Caroline Stone (Mount Vernon, New Hampshire/Souhegan). The deflection would prove to be Saint Rose sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Homer's (Puyallup, Washington/Puyallup) only save of the match.

Five minutes later, Stonehill would finally break through, as Mancuso fired a shot from just outside the box into the top left corner of the net for her first goal as a Skyhawk.

The Golden Knights did have an opportunity to regain the lead in the first overtime period, when senior back Jourdan Thompson (Brick, New Jersey/Brick Memorial) headed the ball just over the net following a corner kick chance.

Stonehill sophomore goalkeeper Jamie Block (Georgetown, Massachusetts/Georgetown) made six saves in the match after allowing Saint Rose to score in the opening minutes.

Following this afternoon's contest, Stonehill (8-5-2, 6-4-2 NE-10) will be on the road for its final two matches of the regular season. The Skyhawks will head to Saint Anselm College next Wednesday, before taking on Adelphi next Saturday, November 1st in the regular season finale. Saint Rose (13-1-2, 9-1-2 NE-10) will be back in action on Wednesday, when the Golden Knights hit the road to face New Haven.
