EASTON, Mass. (October 7, 2014) – The University of Bridgeport, ranked No. 21 in this week's National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division II Poll and No. 3 in the East Region Poll, scored late in the first half and held on for a 1-0 victory over Stonehill College, ranked No. 5 in the NSCAA East Region Poll, this afternoon in non-conference women's soccer action at Skyhawk Field.

Bridgeport senior midfielder Danielle Puddefoot (Slough, England/Langleywood) provided the only goal of the contest when she collected a through ball from sophomore defender Lauren Mengel (Gilbertsville, Pennsylvania/Boyertown Area) in the 32nd minute and beat Stonehill sophomore goalkeeper Jamie Block (Georgetown, Massachusetts/Georgetown) with a shot to the upper right corner of the net.

Freshman goalkeeper Kaitlin Occhipinti (Islip, New York/Islip) made five saves and registered her fourth clean sheet of the season for the Purple Knights, while Block stopped four of the five shots that came her way.

Stonehill ramped up the pressure in the second half, creating several scoring opportunities, but the Skyhawks were never able to break through. Despite being outshot 13-11 in the game, Stonehill held a 6-4 advantage in the second half to go with a 5-0 edge in corner kicks.

In the 49th minute, junior midfielder Caroline Stone (Mount Vernon, New Hampshire/Souhegan) played a ball into the 18-yard box for sophomore forward Lauren Kapatoes (Hopedale, Massachusetts/Hopedale), but Occhipinti rushed out and deflected Kapatoes' shot wide.

Stonehill (6-2-1, 4-1-1 Northeast-10 Conference) will be back in action with two more contests at home this week. The Skyhawks are set to host Southern New Hampshire University on Thursday afternoon in a makeup of the October 1st postponement, before taking on Assumption College on Saturday. Bridgeport (7-1-1, 3-1 East Coast Conference) will hit the road on Saturday for a match at LIU Post.
