Skyhawks offense struggles, shut out for second consecutive match

BRIARCLIFF, N.Y. (September 15, 2013) – The Stonehill College women's soccer team was unable to score despite taking 20 shots, as the Skyhawks dropped their 2013 Northeast-10 opener to Pace University today by a score of 1-0 at Pace Field.

Junior forward Maddie Manning (Weymouth, Mass./Weymouth) and freshman midfielder Brianna Duserick (Canton, Mass./Canton) each had two shots on goal in the match, but they were both stopped by Pace sophomore goalkeeper Leslie Robertson (Wassaic, N.Y./Webutuck), who made eight saves in the shutout victory for the Setters.

Stonehill senior captain goalkeeper Amy Wheaton (Dartmouth, Mass./Dartmouth) held Pace without a goal through the first 80-plus minutes of the match while making seven stops, before Setters sophomore forward Fabianna Rebecca (Glendale, N.Y./Christ the King) broke the scoreless tie in the 81st minute on a pass from freshman Ashley Kenny (Chester, N.Y./Washingtonville). Manning forced Robertson to make one final save in the 89th minute, and the sophomore goalkeeper was up to the task.

Stonehill (0-3-1, 0-1-0 NE-10) is on the road again this Wednesday, as the Skyhawks travel to Colchester, Vt. to take on Saint Michael's College in NE-10 play. Stonehill then returns to Skyhawk Field on Saturday, as Le Moyne College visits, also in NE-10 action. Pace (1-3-0, 1-0-0 NE-10) will face American International College in Springfield, Mass. this Wednesday.
