Wheaton Named Northeast-10 Women’s Soccer Rookie of the Week

Freshman posts first career shutout in 2-1 week for Skyhawks

EASTON, Mass. (October 13, 2010) – Stonehill College freshman goalkeeper Amy Wheaton (Dartmouth, Mass./Dartmouth) was named the Northeast-10 Women's Soccer Rookie of the Week by the Conference office for the week of October 3-10. The nomination is the first of her career.

Making her first three starts for Stonehill, Wheaton posted a 0.67 goals against average, 18 saves, and a shutout. In a 5-1 win at Bentley University on Tuesday, Wheaton made three saves for her first victory. She followed it with a six-save performance to shut out Assumption College, including two key saves in the final ten minutes to preserve her first career clean sheet. To conclude the week, Wheaton made nine saves on Sunday at American International College, currently ranked fifth in the East Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA).

Stonehill currently ranks third in the NE-10 with five shutouts, and sixth in goals against average with a mark of 0.9 through 13 games.

Stonehill (7-5-1, 6-4-1 NE-10) is in action today at home against the University of Bridgeport at 3:30 p.m.
