Reh has hand in nine of Chargers goals, including three-straight to seal win

EASTON, Mass. (April 20, 2019) – The University of New Haven, ranked No. 16 in this week's Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division II poll, held off Stonehill College down the stretch to secure a 15-14 triumph in Northeast-10 Conference women's lacrosse action on Timothy J. Coughlin, '80 Memorial Field at W.B. Mason Stadium this afternoon.
Senior Mackenzie Reh had a hand in nine of New Haven's 15 goals with eight goals and an assist, netting three-straight within a two-minute span late in the second half to seal the win. She also tallied five draw controls, three ground balls and a caused turnover for the Chargers, while junior Julia Jette totaled five points with a goal and four assists. Senior Samantha Galler and freshman Marina Skelly each netted two goals, while junior Caroline Mahar dished out two assists and collected three draws.
Junior Gianna Guerra registered four saves over the opening 51:51 in goal for New Haven, while classmate Erica Rinsky had one save and yielded just one goal over the final 7:59. Guerra also collected five ground balls and a caused turnover. Junior Bailey Grant made seven stops over 34:01 in the Stonehill goal, while sophomore Kaleigh Wright played the final 25:49 and collected a ground ball.
Sophomore Olivia Pino netted all four of her goals in the second half for Stonehill, sparking a Skyhawks comeback from five goals down early in the frame to grab a pair of late leads. She also tallied four ground balls, three draw controls and a caused turnover for the afternoon. Classmate Shannon Hughes added three goals, two ground balls and a caused turnover, while freshman Kendall Fressle also netted three, with two ground balls and a caused turnover.
Freshman Emma Sullivan totaled three points with two goals and an assist, while junior Jennifer Wheaton posted a goal and two assists for Stonehill. Sophomore Emily Sharretts collected eight draw controls, six ground balls and two caused turnovers for the Skyhawks.
Stonehill used a five goal run, keyed by three markers from Pino, to rally from a four-goal deficit after Reh's fifth of the afternoon four minutes into the second half, and grab its first lead (11-10) as Pino potted her third off a feed from Sullivan with 14:15 to play. Galler scored twice off passes from Jette within 64-seconds to push New Haven back in front with 12:41 remaining, but Pino drew the Skyhawks level once again and then Wheaton gave the hosts their second lead (13-12) with a free-position goal with 8:09 remaining.

New Haven would seal the win from there, getting three-straight goals by Reh within a two-minute span to take a two-goal lead after her eighth of the afternoon with 4:24 to play. Stonehill was able to draw back within a goal on Fressle's third of the day with ten-seconds left, but was unable to score a fifth tying goal in the half, despite winning the ensuing draw.
New Haven scored the first three goals, including a pair by Reh, on its way to a 5-1 lead when Reh set up Skelly for her first goal of the day with 17:42 to play in the first half. Stonehill scored three of the next four goals to pull within two (6-4) after Fressle's second of that run with 7:10 left in the half. Reh closed out the first half scoring to give the Chargers a three-goal (7-4) halftime lead.
New Haven scored twice within the first 59-seconds of the second half as Jette set up junior Kendra Nolan just 14-seconds in and then scored off a Maher feed 45-seconds later to give the Chargers its largest lead of the afternoon (9-4). Hughes followed with two-straight within an 80-second span to pull Stonehill back within three just two minutes later, before Reh's fifth leading up to the Skyhawks big five goal run.
Stonehill (7-8, 4-7 NE10) is right back in action on Wednesday, when it hosts Saint Michael's College for a Mental Health Awareness Game, co-sponsored by Stonehill's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, at W.B. Mason Stadium at 3:30 p.m. New Haven (10-5, 8-3 NE10) hosts No. 21 Bentley University on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
