Four Hawks net three goals in key NE10 win

MANCHESTER, N.H. (April 16, 2019) – Saint Anselm College got three goals from four different players, holding off Stonehill College down the stretch, for a 14-10 victory in Northeast-10 Conference women's lacrosse action at Grappone Stadium tonight.

Senior Molly Beck, junior Breda Holland and sophomore Annie Richards all recorded five points with three goals and two assists to lead Saint Anselm. Holland also collected three draw controls and freshman Taylor Cobain rounded out the four Hawks with three goals, adding four draws and a caused turnover. Sophomore Kelsey Czarnota chipped in a goal and assist for the Hawks.

Junior Bailee Pudvar preserved the win with six saves in the Saint Anselm goal. Junior Bailey Grant registered seven saves in 45:19 in the Stonehill goal, while sophomore Kaleigh Wright made one stop over the final 14:41.

Freshman Kendall Fressle paced Stonehill with three goals, while sophomore Olivia Pino netted two goals and collected five draw controls, a caused turnover and ground ball. Junior Jennifer Wheaton registered a goal and assist, while classmate Kaity Healey led four Skyhawks with a goal, adding three draws.

Saint Anselm closed out the first half with a 4-1 run that turned a 5-4 deficit after Pino's first goal of the night with 8:42 remaining, into an 8-6 halftime lead. Four different Hawks scored during the run, with Pino adding a second for Stonehill with 3:17 left, before Richards scored off a Czarnota feed with 1:38 to play, to cap the scoring.

Saint Anselm's lead was still two (9-7) after junior Kenzie Pleshaw scored less than five minutes into the second half. The Hawks followed with four goals over the next eight minutes to take control of the game, sparked by sophomore Caroline Villareal's goal less than 30-seconds later, followed by markers from Richards and Cobain.

Stonehill got back in the game with a three-goal run within a three-minute span. Fressle had two of the three goals, while Wheaton recorded a goal and assist, setting up Fressle's third of the night with 11:52 to play that pulled the Skyhawks back within three (13-10). Holland sealed the win with her goal with 2:31 to play, off a feed from Beck, as the Hawks kept the Skyhawks scoreless the rest of the way.     

Stonehill (7-7, 4-6 NE10) is back in action on Saturday, when it hosts 16th-ranked University of New Haven at W.B. Mason Stadium at noon. Saint Anselm (7-6, 5-5 NE10) visits No. 2-ranked Adelphi University on Thursday at 5 p.m.
