Johnson's nine points leads Panthers to fourth straight win
GARDEN CITY, N.Y. (April 13, 2019) – Adelphi University, ranked No. 2 in this week's Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division II poll, used two lengthy runs to secure an 18-8 victory over Stonehill College in Northeast-10 Conference women's lacrosse action at Motamed Field this afternoon.
Junior Alison Johnson had a hand in half of Adelphi's goals with a goal and eight assists for nine points, collecting two ground balls, while classmate Kole Pollock netted five goals, while adding four draw controls and a ground ball. Senior Lena Riportella contributed three goals and an assist off the bench, while junior Alyssa Gillespie registered two goals and an assist. Junior Allison Stackpole and sophomore Christina Ferrara each netted a pair of goals, while Stackpole added two draws and Ferrara had two caused turnovers. Freshman Christina McCabe chipped in with a goal and two assists for the Panthers.
Sophomore Emma Lemanski registered seven saves in 47:21 of action for Adelphi in relief of senior Tamar Epps who started and finished with one save. Junior Bailey Grant posted ten saves in the Stonehill goal, while adding three ground balls.
Junior Jennifer Wheaton paced seven different Stonehill players with at least a point, finishing with two goals and an assist, while freshman Kendall Fressle netted a pair by converting 2-of-3 free-position attempts. Sophomore Shannon Hughes added a goal and assist, while junior Kenzie Pleshaw and freshmen Emma Sullivan and Meghan Manzo each chipped in with a goal.

Stonehill struck first, with sophomore Emily Sharretts securing the opening draw control, before Pleshaw found the back of the net after just 38-seconds. Adelphi responded with its first of two lengthy goal runs, netting the next six goals, including four by Pollack to gain control midway through the first half. Fressle, Manzo and Hughes followed with goals within a 2:18 span to pull the Skyhawks back within a pair (6-4) with 11:22 remaining.
Stackpole and Ferrara closed out the first half scoring to send Adelphi into halftime with an 8-4 lead, which started a seven goal run for the Panthers that broke the game open (13-4) after Riportella's first goal of the afternoon less than five minutes into the second half. After Pollock opened the second half scoring 53-seconds in with her fifth of the day, Johnson figured in each of the Panthers next four goals to cap the run, scoring her 22nd of the season and then assisting on the following three.
Wheaton's two goals came consecutively, just three and a half minutes apart, to draw Stonehill within seven (13-6) with 21:36 left. The Skyhawks would get no closer, as Adelphi outscored the visitors 5-2 the rest of the way, led by a goal and two assists from McCabe.
Stonehill (7-6, 4-5 NE10) is right back in action on Tuesday, when it visits Saint Anselm College for an NE10 matchup at 7:30 p.m. The Skyhawks return home next Saturday, April 20, to host 16th-ranked University of New Haven at W.B. Mason Stadium at noon. Adelphi (12-1, 9-0 NE10) visits Franklin Pierce University on Tuesday at 1 p.m.
