Pino and Hughes lead Skyhawks with six points each

EASTON, Mass. (April 6, 2019) – Stonehill College, among teams receiving votes in this week's Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division II poll, scored the first ten goals of the game and limited Franklin Pierce University to just four shots in the opening half on its way to a 17-3 triumph in Northeast-10 Conference women's lacrosse action on Timothy J. Coughlin, '80 Memorial Field at W.B. Mason Stadium this afternoon.
Junior Shannon Hughes and sophomore Olivia Pino each recorded five goals and an assist for six point afternoons to lead Stonehill to a second-straight win and improve to 6-1 at home this season. Junior Jennifer Wheaton added four points with a goal and three assists, collecting two ground balls. Junior Kaity Healey and freshman Kendall Fressle each netted two goals, while Healey added three ground balls, three draw controls and a caused turnover. Freshman Emma Sullivan chipped in with a goal and assist, two ground balls and a caused turnover.
Junior Bailey Grant and sophomore Kaleigh Wright split the goalkeeping duties for Stonehill. Grant had two first half, saves, while Wright tallied five in the second. Sophomore Emily Sharretts contributed a team-high six draw controls for the Skyhawks, with three ground balls, while junior Jill McIntire registered three caused turnovers and four ground balls.
Sophomore Caroline Lounsbury led Franklin Pierce with a goal and assist. Juniors Bella Lima and Sarah Heckman each netted a goal for the Ravens, while freshman Savannah Ernst chipped in with three draws, a ground ball and caused turnover. Freshman Megan Bacik registered five saves over 41-minutes the Ravens goal, while junior Casey Butera added three stops over the last 19 minutes of the first half.

Stonehill scored the first ten goals of the contest and never looked back. Healey put Stonehill on the board with a free-position goal 35-seconds in and then Hughes potted her first two of the day two minutes apart for a three-goal lead less than five minutes into the game. Hughes had four of her five goals on the contest during the opening run, while Healey and Pino added a pair. Pino's first two goals of the game capped the ten goal run 1:40 apart, with her second coming off a Hughes feed with 10:05 left in the half.
Heckman broke up the run with her tenth goal of the year, assisted by Lounsbury, with 8:11 to go before the half, but Stonehill added three more goals, including two more from Pino, to take a 13-1 lead into the intermission.
Pino had a hand in Stonehill's first two goals of the second half, as the Skyhawks would open a 17-1 lead before Franklin Pierce struck for a pair in the last ten minutes. Pino set up Wheaton's 20th goal of the year 4:14 into the second half and then finished off her five-goal day with her 16th of the year, assisted by Sullivan, three minutes later. Hughes closed out her five-goal game with 20:10 remaining, assisted by Wheaton, for her 24th goal of the year.
Stonehill (7-4, 4-3 NE10) is right back in action at W.B. Mason Stadium on Wednesday night, when it hosts 16th-ranked Pace University at 7 p.m. Franklin Pierce (6-5, 3-5 NE10) visits Saint Michael's College on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
