Mallery nets six for Pioneers to offset Healey's strong effort for Skyhawks

EASTON, Mass. (March 27, 2019) – LIU Post, ranked No. 9 in this week's Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division II poll, held off Stonehill College, among teams receiving votes in the IWLCA poll, in the second half for a 16-12 victory in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Timothy J. Coughlin, '80 Memorial Field at W.B. Mason Stadium this afternoon.
Junior Alyssa Mallery netted six goals, including a run of three-straight around halftime, to put LIU Post in front for good, adding four draw controls, three ground balls and a caused turnover. Senior Trish Brisotti, junior Brianna Feldman and sophomore Jamie Alvino all contributed three goals for the Pioneers, while Feldman also collected three draws and a ground ball. Junior Angela Deren chipped in with a pair of assists.
Freshman Hailey Duchnowski preserved the win with 14 saves in the LIU Post goal, including nine in the first half. Junior Bailey Grant and sophomore Kaleigh Wright split the goalkeeping duties for Stonehill. Grant made five stops in 33:03 between the first and second half, while Wright had three saves in 26:57 over the middle portion of the game.
Junior Kaity Healey paced Stonehill with four goals and collected 11 of the Skyhawks 20 draw controls, including six in the first half when the hosts controlled possession with an 11-3 advantage in draws. Junior Shannon Hughes, sophomore Olivia Pino and freshman Emma Sullivan all netted two goals for Stonehill, while Pino also totaled three ground balls and a caused turnover. Freshman Kendall Fressle added a goal and assist.

Stonehill struck first when Fressle potted her 11th goal of the year 46-seconds into the game, but LIU Post followed with the next three goals within a span of three-minutes, including the first of the afternoon for Mallery and Alvino just 12-seconds apart. Sullivan broke up the run with her first goal of the game with 22:33 left in the first half, but Alvino answered 15-seconds after that to wrap a run of four goals within a minute between the two teams to restore the Pioneers two goal lead.
Mallery scored a free-position goal with 10:18 to play in the first half to stretch the LIU Post lead to three goals (6-3), but Stonehill followed with a three-goal run over a four-minute span to draw level (6-6) after junior Kenzie Pleshaw's first goal of the year with 5:24 left.
Mallery sent LIU Post into halftime with the lead with her third goal of the opening half with two minutes remaining. She followed that up with the first two goals of the second half to extend the Pioneers lead to four (10-6) 4:08 into the half. Stonehill answered with a pair off the sticks of Pino and Healey to draw back within two (10-8) with 18-minutes remaining, however the two teams would trade goals until Mallery and Brisotti scored the last two goals of the day in the final 2:27.
Stonehill (5-3, 2-2 NE10) returns to action on Saturday, when it wraps up a four-game run against nationally-ranked opponents at 18th-ranked Merrimack College at noon. The Skyhawks return to W.B. Mason Stadium on Saturday, April 6, to host Franklin Pierce University in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup at noon.
