Shannahan Earns IWLCA All-East Region Honors for Second-Straight Year

EASTON, Mass. (May 18, 2018) – Stonehill College senior midfielder Taylor Shannahan (Mendham, New Jersey/Morris Catholic) has earned a spot on the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division II All-East Region second team as selected by the organization's head coaches, it was announced today.

Shannahan earns IWLCA All-East Region honors for the second-straight year with her spot on the second team after collecting third team honors as a junior. She was earlier voted All-Northeast-10 Conference for the second-straight year, earning second team honors after a record-breaking senior season for Stonehill. She collected a program-record 75 ground balls to lead the NE10 and rank seventh nationally, surpassing the previous mark of 68 by Stonehill Hall of Famer Amy Bartlett, '02 and Ann Signorella, '02 in 2001. Shannahan also ranks second in the NE10 and 18th nationally with her team-high 40 caused turnovers, which is the sixth-highest single-season total in program history, ranking second on the team with 38 draw controls.

On attack, Shannahan ranked second on the team with ten assists, to go with 19 goals for 29 points to rank fourth on the team in scoring. She posted multiple goals in five games this season, netting a season-high three goals three times and totaling a career-high matching four points three times, including twice over the Skyhawks last three games with three goals and an assist at Saint Michael's College on April 25 and a goal and career-best three assists in a 19-6 win over Queens (N.Y.) College to conclude the season. She opened the season with a career-high ten ground balls in a 9-8 win at American International College, adding nine caused turnovers, while snaring a career-best ten draws in a win at St. Thomas Aquinas College on April 27.

Shannahan, who earned All-NE10 third team honors as a junior, started 56 of the 72 games she played over her four-year career with the Stonehill women's lacrosse team, also helping the women's soccer program to the 2016 NE10 Championship and first NCAA Tournament bid as a two-sport standout at the College. She tallied 56 goals and 27 assists for 83 points on attack for her career, finishing with 188 career ground balls – just one shy of the program record, while her 83 career caused turnovers rank fifth all-time. She also collected 84 draws over her career, and was named to the NE10 Commissioner's Honor Roll for her efforts in the classroom. Shannahan received the athletic department's "Breakout Junior Award" at its 2017 Athletic Awards Night. She earned All-New England honors for women's soccer following her senior year, finishing her four-year career on the pitch with four goals and six assists for 14 points, netting a pair of match-winning goals, in 73 career games as a midfielder.

Stonehill women's lacrosse wrapped up its 2018 season with an 8-9 record overall, including 5-8 in the NE10.
