Gelderman's seven points leads Setters to victory
PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. (April 11, 2018) – Pace University, ranked No. 10 in this week's Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division II poll and 17th in the Nike/US Lacrosse Magazine Division II poll, rode a 7-1 run wrapped around halftime to fuel an 11-7 victory over Stonehill College in Northeast-10 Conference women's lacrosse action at Pace Stadium tonight.
Senior Casey Gelderman (Farmingville, New York/Sachem East) had a hand in seven of Pace's 11 goals, finishing with five goals and two assists, to go with five draw controls, three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Classmate Stephanie Chadnick (Brewster, New York/Brewster) netted three goals and caused four turnovers for the Setters, while junior Courtney Pabst (East Patchogue, New York/Bellport) totaled three points with a goal and two assists. Senior Emily Ankabradt (Scotia, New York/Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake) dished out two assists, while classmate Angela Kelly (Garnerville, New York/North Rockland) chipped in with a goal and assist.
Senior Jillian Oross (Bay Shore, New York/Bay Shore) registered eight saves in the Pace goal, while sophomore Bailey Grant (Chelmsford, Massachusetts/Chelmsford) finished with ten stops in the Stonehill goal.

Freshman Shannon Hughes (Franklin Square, New York/Kellenberg Memorial) paced the Stonehill attack with two goals and an assist for three points, while adding two draw controls, a ground ball and caused turnover. Junior Linna Jalinskas (Farmington, New York/Farmington) added a pair of goals, three ground balls and a caused turnover, while senior Taylor Shannahan (Mendham, New Jersey/Morris Catholic) tallied a goal with six caused turnovers, two draws and four ground balls. Sophomore Olivia DeCurtis (Garden City, New York/Garden City) collected three caused turnovers for the Skyhawks.
Gelderman had a hand in two Pace goals scored within a 35-second span that broke a 3-3 deadlock with 11-minutes to play in the opening half. She scored her first goal of the night to break the tie with 11:08 left in the half and then assisted on sophomore Mary Kate Lonegan's (Brewster, New York/Brewster) seventh goal of the year with 10:33 to go. Shannahan pulled Stonehill back within a goal a minute later with her 13th of the season, but Gelderman set up Kelly's 22nd goal of the spring with 44-seconds left and send the Setters into halftime with a two-goal lead.
Pace sealed the win by scoring the first four goal of the second half over a span of 19-minutes. Chadnick opened the second half with her third goal of the night three minutes in, and then Gelderman scored the next three over a 12-minute stretch, the latter two assisted by Pabst, to give the Setters a six goal lead (10-4) with 11:02 remaining.
Hughes and Gelderman traded goals within a 24-second span and then Stonehill pulled within four after markers from senior Kelly Healey (Westwood, Massachusetts/Westwood), with 6:34 left and then Hughes, but the latter goal came with just 40-seconds to go as time would run out on a Skyhawks comeback.
Stonehill (5-6, 4-5 NE10) returns to action on Saturday, when it hosts No. 1/2 Adelphi University at W.B. Mason Stadium at 1 p.m. Pace (9-3, 6-2 NE10) visits Bentley University on Saturday at noon.
