Prince scores three first half goals to lead Tars
WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 5, 2016) – Rollins College, ranked sixth in this week's Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) Division II poll, wrapped a 10-1 run around halftime to claim a 15-4 victory over 9th-ranked Stonehill College in a top-ten non-conference women's lacrosse matchup Barker Family Stadium tonight.
Freshman Kaitlin Prince (Scarborough, Maine/Scarborough) led three Rollins players with three point nights with three goals, adding a draw control and ground ball. Sophomore Megan Cury (San Diego, California/Rancho Bernardo) and freshman Paige Brock (Winter Springs, Florida/Winter Springs) both added two goals and an assist for the Tars, while senior Kris Coppolino (Winter Springs, Florida/Winter Springs), junior Claire Block (Bethesda, Maryland/Walt Whitman) and freshman Kallie German (Centreville, Maryland/Queen Anne's County) all netted a pair of goals. German also contributed six ground balls, two draw controls and a caused turnover.
Senior Rebecca Matheson (Reading, Massachusetts/Reading Memorial) scored three of Stonehill's four goals on the night, converting 2-of-3 free-position attempts, while sophomore Brianna Doherty (Walpole, Massachusetts/Walpole) chipped in with her first career goal. Sophomore Kaitlyn Hess (Guilderland, New York/Guilderland) made her collegiate debut in the Skyhawk goal and finished with seven saves and two ground balls. Junior Cara Corvino (Dorset, Vermont/Burr and Burton Academy) contributed two ground balls, three draw controls and a caused turnover, while classmate Michaela Brown (Pleasantville, New York/The Ursuline School) collected three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Sophomore Malorie Olin (Skaneateles, New York/Skaneateles) posted four saves in goal for Rollins who finished with a 29-11 advantage for shots. The Tars also converted 17-of-20 clear attempts, compared to 7-for-17 for Stonehill, while draw controls finished ten apiece.

Doherty opened the scoring on the night with her first career goal for Stonehill nine minutes into the game. Rollins followed with the next three goals within a two minute span to take the lead. Senior Tyler Thomas (Winter Park, Florida/Lake Highland Prep) knotted the score a minute and a half after Doherty's opener before German and Prince scored less than a minute apart to open a 3-1 lead with 17:55 left in the half.
Matheson's first goal of the night on a free-position shot trimmed the lead back to a goal with 13-minutes remaining and then Rollins fired off four goals in a two minute span to open a 7-2 lead after Block's third goal of the year with 8:12 left in the half. Matheson scored her second goal of the night with just 14.2-seconds remaining in the half, but Prince answered with her third goal of the half with two seconds to go and maintain the Tars five goal lead (8-3) heading into halftime.
Rollins' added the first five goals of the second half to extend its run to 10-1 for a 13-3 lead after Brock's second of the night, assisted by senior Emily Eddowes (Lancaster, Pennsylvania/Penn Manor), with 14:37 to play. Matheson capped her hat trick with 12:30 on the clock, but the Tars closed out the scoring with a pair of goals in the final 11:35.
Stonehill (0-1, 0-0 NE-10) is right back in action on Monday when it visits the University of Tampa for a non-conference matchup at 1 p.m. The Skyhawks home opener is Tuesday, March 22, when they host top-ranked Adelphi University for a Northeast-10 contest at W.B. Mason Stadium at 7 p.m. Rollins (4-0, 1-0 SSC) hosts Queens (N.C.) College on Monday at 7 p.m.
